Operation and maintenance
Trains in an outbuilding...
Hi guys,
So my wife and I are closing on a house within the next few weeks which we are very excited about! Of course, the first thing I thought about was where I was going to put all of my trains...
After talking about it, we decided that my "train room" would actually be the shack (an old chicken coop) out back; separate from the house. Though it is separate from the house, it DOES have electricity running out to it which was my initial concern.

Engine Facility Question
I recently posted this picture of the Atherton engine facility asking if anyone could spot the deliberate error.

Reboxx Wheelsets out of square?
Has anybody experienced problems with Reboxx wheels being out of square?
I have a pack of 1.045" axle length 36" wheel sets and most of them seem to be out. One wheel is tipped in slightly.
Exaggerated view:
Brake wheel which way does it go lead or dead on a freight car?
Have newbie question:
Modeling 60's to 70's over the Sierra's.
When a run of cars are purchased from say Pullman Manufacturing, which way is the brake wheel positioned in the lead or dead?
So in operation would it matter which way the brake wheel is positioned.

TT/TO - Yard ops
Have a question about TT/TO in the yard.
Last week at the club, I was running one of the yards. The club I belong to runs TT/TO with a dispatcher issuing the orders.
The yards have yard limit rules that extend down the main outside the yard. According to the rules, all trains must observe yard limit rules, except first class trains, which may remain at track speed if only occupying the main.
A situation arose (as does many times) when a train is late. For the rest of the layout, the dispatcher is issuing orders so the late train can get through.

US Geological Survey
I thought I would share some tools that I'm using to design a new prototype railroad. I'm interested in modeling Denver in particular in 1959. I have traveled to Denver and lived in Denver for many years but as anybody knows the railroad's don't look the same today as they did and 59.
Thalys & TGV Hi-speed Rail
Back in November I traveled from Amsterdam to Paris via the Thalys and TGV hi-speed trains. As an American with limited exposure to passenger rail transport before I started working overseas I had never traveled that way before. It honestly was one of my favorite travel experiences of all time. I finally did a write-up and posted some photographs on my blog here:

Please enjoy.
Train Orders and wait times to OS
On one particular layout using timetable and train orders, I have found the ops session can get bogged down in train orders. With train orders delivered by the dispatcher and received by the agent operator, then repeated back by each operator involved in the order (and written), engineers are waiting around with trains that can depart but don't have clearance, and even the task of OS'ing can be problematic if the train order process is long and involved.
Bachrus speed matching?
I remember an article where they used one of these speedometers to help speed match trains. I now see they have one for decoder pro. I can see where it would speed up the process. Has anyone eve used this method before?
