Connecting a remote dispatcher to the local crew's FRS radios

Does anyone have experience with running op sessions using a remote dispatcher, and connecting that person in to the FRS radio system used by the local crew? In theory, this looks like it could be done fairly easily using a computer that is running Google Voice, Hangouts, Skype, Mumble, or any other voice-over-IP solution. My thinking is that some fairly basic impedence-matching hardware between the computer and an FRS radio should work. The radio would have to run in VOX mode.

Restricting speeds to grow your layout

As part of my conversion from Tsunami decoders to Loksound, I decided to set the top speed of my entire roster to reflect my prototype's speed limits.  Road power was set to 25mph (later adjusted to 17mph, then to 12, see update ), and the yard consist to 10mph (later adjusted to 8mph).  Doing so has been an eye-opener on a couple of fronts.

LED lights for switch direction

I am modeling N scale. I have installed atlas switches with factory mounted switch machines. I want to be able to light a block signal as well as red and green indicators on my control panel to indicate the route of the turnout. I can't afford to replace all the switch machines with expensive "TORTOISE TYPE" switch machine or the Atlas equivalent to mount under the layout. Does anyone have a solution to my dilema?

In real life if this happened, how would this diesel be moved out of the way? How could another loco get to the cars that are already spotted to be removed? And I'm ot willing to cheat by using an 0-5-0 ; )

How does a Yardmaster manage empties?

I have been building a freight car routing progam as part of the final module for my Comp. Science degree. Each Way Freight  (WF) that is generated is displayed as a switch list. The following is an example.

Cleaning steam loco drivers

Are there any products or designs that are effective to "clean-in-place" steam loco drivers?

Switchlist Software Discussion

I'd like to get people's impressions and experiences with different types of switchlist software.  I have experimented with two different programs: Switchlist on the Macintosh, and JMRI on my PC.  Both are free, and have pros and cons, but as I haven't used them extensively, I'm looking for insights.  I have also considered Albion Software's Ship It!, but as that costs about $100, I haven't experimented much with it.
