Reporting for Duty...

Apologies if this is the wrong forum.

You're a prototype crew member trying to catch some sleep in the hotel. Call comes in to report for duty. Let's talk modern era for now. And...do answers change based on taking a ride to crew change as opposed to reporting to a terminal?

Questions:

1. Typically, how much in advance is the wake-up call before you're expected to be ready to man the assigned train ready for release?

Blending Car Cards and Switch Lists

I'm currently building a switching layout based on Jones Island in Milwaukee, WI. This Lake Michigan port area, now served by UP and CP, but in my era (66-70) it was Milwaukee Road and CNW, plus car-ferry ops by C&O and Grand Trunk. I'll skip the latter, and the 2 main roads will have 2 staging tracks each. It's 19' by 14' for the switching, plus a 10' staging leg.

DCC circuit breakers

Has anyone  experienced DCC breakers that will not reset without recycling the power? Is the solution just to replace it or is some cause I may not be aware of causing it ?

Filling Car Spots & Industrial requirements

Hi all,

Having read around the forum (and books) including these very informative threads here:

I was wondering the following before starting ops on the layout for the first time and before finalizing some things on specific industrial spurs:

Operational Basics

Folks, this will be my attempt at a TOMA layout, representing operations in the Corpus Christi Texas area. It will be two N Scale modules, one 48 inches long and the other 44 inches long, both 20 inches deep. This is so they can fit in my travel trailer as I rat around for the railroad. I like the plan I have but nothing is set in stone. I need to have someone with a ton more experience look at it and see if there are any operational pitfalls I am blind to or any ideas or areas of improvement. Many thanks in advance for any and all help you fine folks can provide.

Industry inbound/outbound cars and roadnames question.

Hi all,

I hope i am posting this in the right section and apologies in advance if this sounds like a too-obvious question. I am wondering if there is a link between the road name of a freight car and if this is inbound or outbound (loaded in both cases) car at an industry that is a customer to a specific railroad.

cleaning track

Hi Folks;

Seem to be developing a problem here -- probably related to the current high humidity in the area.  My trackwork seems to be getting dirty quite rapidly -- to the point that locomotives wont run properly.  I have a mix of atlas and Microengineering track.  Ive been using a chunk of masonite to clean it but I'm wondering if thats appropriate, is there a preventative?

Thanks

TIM
