Operation and maintenance
Way freights, manifest freights, transfers, turns and other kinds of trains
Part of my project as I design the operation system for the San Luis and Rio Grande is that I want to get things more or less prototypical. In various reading, I'm coming across various "types" of trains, and could use some clarity
not sure what they are called, the fast trains that run between major terminals such as what we see on the Virtual Railfan LaPlata cams (they are on the BNSF Transcon Line)
I know what unit trains are -- full trains of a type thinks like coal, sand, grain, oil etc
Shenware Software (MiTrains and Waybills)
Has anyone else worked with this remarkable software program and understand how it all works? At my remarkable old age, I cannot decipher how to get waybills to print out correctly, even when you prompt them to be printed blank.
I will be forever grateful for any and all help with regards to get me going in the right direction with this program. Thank you.

Kicking around ideas for a DIY "Steam Look" throttle
I'm kicking around ideas for a DIY "steam look" throttle. There is an ongoing discussion thread about a steam proto throttle much like the diesel version elsewhere on the forum but it's probably a bit more involved and likely, like it's diesel cousin, beyond my means. My idea begins with Geoff Bunza's excellent SMA 30 WiFi throttle and then making it look and maybe somewhat act like a steam loco throttle. All I have are ideas right now and nothing is set except DIY and markedly cheaper for me to build than what's being discussed for manufacture.
Mesh Window Covering
I'm scratchbuilding a model (HO scale) of a structure that has a "mesh" covering over two smaller rear windows, presumably to act as "burglar bars". This mesh is not square, but sort of diamond shaped, if you will. Sort of like tulle, but smaller.
Any suggestions as to a product out there that I could use, either a commercial product or a craft store type product?
Appreciate any leads/suggestions!
Thanks,
Al Carter
Ground Throw Recommendation
My tiny around the walls 8' by 8' ( yes, the room is only 8 by 8 ) has 20 Atlas Mark IV #4 switches. I think it's time for the addition of ground throws. I looked at Walthers website, confusion reigns.
Suggestions?
Help finding an LGB service center
My Grizzly Flats 0-4-2 loco has a gear problem. I hear a lot of grinding. The loco does not move. I need to find a service center. I am located in North Carolina.
Thanks!

[Free] Switch List Generator (V 1 & 1.1) My version
Group,
I have a question about the two versions of the free switch list on this group.
I have been following this and working with the Switch List a long time. I use Excel from Office 365, so the spreadsheet is in that form.
I retired from my job July 2017 and while working I had a friend at that job that was a spreadsheet guru (my word).
Preventative Maintenance
I'm a little curious as to how many on this list actually have and implement a preventative maintenance program? I know I have one, as my using the Easy Model Railroading software reminds me that I have entered some dates periodically. But have I really implemented a PM system? For those who know me, I work in the chemicals business, where PM systems are taking very seriously as part of maintaining equipment operational and ultimately quality control.
An Operations Idea
An idea started forming while I was reading the thread on the steam locomotive proto throttle. (DISCLAIMER: I don't much about electronics, I spent my working life in the US Army (Infantry) and then in law enforcement after I retired from the Army so what I am proposing may not be possible, but I think it could be made to work).
Classes of trains -- need a Reference
Hi Folks:
I KNOW I'm being a bit dumb here -- but I cant remember, nor can I seem to successfully google for a list of the different classifications of trains -- some of it I remember
1st class - passenger trains, Z trains, (and in the olden days -- fast fruit trains etc)
2nd Class - General Freight??
3rd Class -- Non priority etc???
When I google for classes of trains i get stuff on the indian railroad (from india) im sure the problem is im not googling well, but I seem to have a mental block today
