Model Railroad Inventory Programs

Coming back from a train show yesterday, my buddy said something to me about dying. After the initial weird feeling, we began to discuss model railroad inventories and how A LOT of train show vendors acquire their inventories. I too have run across the occasional widow trying to sell off her husband's collection.  I even said, "you know, I bet some of these vendors have sold the same stuff a few times over." You know what I am talking about. We all buy kits with big plans but never end up doing anything with them.

(Show us your) Fascia Labelling

Good morning.

Recently, I hosted an ops session. I am very new to operations and I'm learning the hard way that people who are new to operating my layout can't read my mind. New Operator: "Hey, where is Waterbury Card Board Box Company?" Me: "It's right in front of you." New Operator: "What number is that switch." Me: "..."

Updates to my website

Two new items:

I have updated the full feature MS Access database to generate car cards and waybills, the previous one had issues printing color stripes on the waybills:

I have started a glossary, I will add some images and plan to expand the content on a regular basis:

Bachmann Steam Repair

Have a Bachmann 2-10-4 that seems to bind up.i am looking for someone qualified to fix, repair this unit. This is my first post here and probably not correct so I apologize. Any input?

Block Detection in an DCC environment

For starters,  what I know about block detection could be printed in foot tall letters on the edge of a razor blade.

Getting that out of the way I have been trying to follow Joe's advice and plan for block detection/signals in my wiring and operations (CTC) plan.

Last year purchased a Digikeijs DR5000 " Mid " set that has control unit, wireless throttle, 5 amp booster and 32 channel ( 2 x 16 channel units ) occupancy detection. I had hoped I was sorta "future-proofing" my power/wiring selection.

Ozark Operations: KC&G Style!

Hi All:

This will be a thread to share various experiences, musings, and thoughts on operating my Ozark theme layout.

Another Highland video

Just posted another video to YouTube. This one's just a quick interchange between Highland & Norfolk Southern. The beginning of the video gives a good shot of two ScaleTrains SD40-2's climbing the 2.5% grade though. The freight cars all weigh 8-11 oz. each so the sound is not just for show - those engines are really working!

The first Highland Railroad operating video

Uploaded the first video of operations on the Highland. This video shows the first job of the morning - switching out the paper mill. This is my first attempt at video editing and only my second operating session so go easy on me.

On a side note... this video is shot with my new iPhone 11. I’m quite impressed on the quality of video, especially since most of it is hand held. Anyway, enjoy!

Setting up inbound trains

Hi folks:

Im continually working on and learning about operations for my new layout -- I am using Car Cards and Waybills.

I understand (I think) how to use the cc/wb once the train is on the layout, what I am not sure about is how do I choose which cars / loads to put into arriving trains when I am staging for a session?

Thanks

TIM

Old HO Scale Locomotives with odd motor and gear setup

Good evening, this is my 1st time submit data on this site so if it is not in proper order let me know. I'm helping out a local Museum that has a large static display of the Kansas City Southern Railroad yard in Leesville Louisiana. The display is very old, there is no record when it built. I have been trying to clean up the steam locomotives which heavy and would assume old brass models. No luck getting them to run either, but the question is based on what I found on the Diesel Locomotive either RS-1 or RS-3.
