Locos and rolling stock

Wiring locomotive lighting to a DCC decoder.

I finally got a moment to work on one of my own projects!  I have a SD70ACe by Athearn in VTR colors that I have wanted to upgrade.  I took some pictures along the way to show you how I organize a fairly simple wiring package. The headlights and ditch lights on this model were all LED, present and working.  I wanted to add working number boards but starting with a solid block of styrene was not in the cards.  My consolation was that I could add ground lights, step lights and a cab light.

DC problem with one loco

Hi, everyone,

this is the first time I use this forum so bear with me pls...I have a small HO layout with dc control. I dont think I need dcc just yet although this may change if i can't fix this problem.  My problem is with one of my loco, an Athearn GP7. When I place it on the track and run it she starts fine but within approximately 5 to 6 ft she gradually slows down and comes to a stop. when that happens I have to shut everything down and wait a while before she'll run again.

Any Idea/help would be appreciated.

I need the best, least risky way of removing lettering from a specific Atlas GP38 (2016 version)

Over the years I have tried a variety of techniques to remove lettering from pad printed painted models with modest success. I've tried Solvaset with tissue paper and erasers as well as other commercially available decal removers.  I've usually taken a significant amount of the underlying paint with the lettering.  Touch-up painting and then weathering to disguise that damage has been required.  It is one thing to do it on a $20 car and quite another for something expensive and hard to come by.

ONW Box Car recommendations (w/ construction photos)

Since my local LHS closed in 2014, I've been to a hobby shop only a handful of times so not too up on what's available.  I've also not paid a lot of attention but was wondering about mid 1990s era box cars.  In particular, this one in a photo I took in early 2019 in the eastern end of the Gorge in Washington:

Best rolling stock brand

If money was not in the question which brand would wish to buy for rolling stock?

Help getting the grind out of a GP38-2

I have a Bachmann HO GP38-2 that is a bit noisy and doesn't start very well, taking a good bit of throttle (DC) before it gets going. It definitely has more noise/grind with the shell on. It has no significant run time. I have not pulled apart the trucks to clean the factory lube, but it doesn't look to be gummy from what I can see.

I thought I would start by giving it a good cleaning, and adding a couple drops of Dexron II. But, i don't know if that will really suppress the grind.

turning a dummy to powered, Proto2000 E6B

I'm finding lots of E6B dummies and a few chassis/motors

how hard is it to power a dummy and are the mechanisms the same for different locos except for drive shaft length?

Rio Grande Font

I'm trying to model the Rio Grande Scenic RR that operates out of Alamosa, Colorado. I'd like to print my own N-scale decals, but i need to find the font used. The passenger cars seem pretty easy, but the locos have the classic Rio Grande in a gold color. Any suggestions?

Which red Modelflex or True Color paint for MKT (Katy) locomotive of the late sixties/early seventies era

My plan is to paint and weather one of the red MKT GP7s as it would have appeared around 1975.  Yes, the Katy began painting their locomotives green with yellow stripes in the early seventies, but there were still some red ones around that hadn't made it to the paint shop.  Great photos of them can be found if you search the web.
