Bachmann HO 4-6-0 Disassembly

Howdy all-

I've struck out everywhere else to I thought I'd post here with the hope that one of the biggest brains in the hobby knows.

I have this Bachmann 10-wheeler and I took it apart and painted it this last weekend but I could not figure out how to get the shell off so I can do the lighting. Has anyone ever taken this model apart before? I've done all my others and have found there is usually one step that you just can't guess at. I think that's what I'm up against here.

GP7 or GP9?

Hey All,

A guy is looking to sell this and I am interested but I am not 100% sure whether it is a GP7 or GP9. I asked if he could take some side shots but he said his son took this for him and he doesn't have a camera. The only thing that makes me think this is a GP7 is the placement of the horns but I thought I would table this is to the pros and see what you all think :)

Thanks!

BLI SW7 Lurches Through Low Speed Steps

Hello, everyone!

I have a new BLI SW7 with a Paragon 2 decoder.  I've noticed that the engine has poor low speed performance.  I've tried tweaking the CVs using Decoder Pro.  Now it starts fine at speed step 1 but literally jumps to each additional speed step until it reaches about step 5.  This lurching doesn't go away when playing with momentum or BLI's speed smoothing.

MU cables

I'm detailing streamline diesels for ABBA consists. I notice there are 3.4 and even more cables offered in sets. What number was used and for what exactly? I assume different lines had some different set ups, also passenger vs freight?

"Critter" builders, rejoice!

Spotted on Thingiverse, a compact 2-axle "drive bogie" you can 3-D print, with a shopping list of parts to power it.

Adjust the axle spacing in your favorite app, away you go.

Has anyone tried fitting the LL P2K body to the WalthersMainline chassis?

Athearn Ready to Roll Truck Removal Inquiry

Hi – Wondering if anyone has experience removing a powered truck from an Athearn Ready to Roll SD40-2?  I bought three of these many years ago (brand new) and are finally getting around to working on them.  When I went to remove the side-frames, two locos came off easily while the third unit seemed to have some sort of manufacturing defect.  The tops of the side-frames were sanded down and when I tried to pull them off (gently of course) the mounting pins broke very quickly and easily.  It looks like they glued the side-frames to the truck itself.  I need to d

first kits

I built a couple of E&B hopper cars for my 50's rail served redi mix plant

I was amazed at how many, and how small the parts were. I really enjoyed the process and made up for most mistakes by fabricating a few lost/broken pieces from scratch. (primer job needs to go back to the repair track)

Noisy gears after a DCC upgrade - N scale switcher

I recently acquired a Lifelike N scale diesel switcher, SW1200 I think (no box, just wrapped well). It was listed "as is, runs intermittently, derails often" so I got it cheap.  I cleaned it up and fixed one of the contacts, widened the wheels to the NMRA standard, and it ran just fine on DC.  So I decided to upgrade it to DCC, since ultimately that's what I want my layout to be, DCC.

Do you have a wrecking crane on your railroad? If so, please post a photo and info about how you modeled or weathered it.
