Disassembling Rivarossi Orient Express coaches for painting

Greetings.  I need to remove the roofs from a few of my Rivarossi Orient Express coaches so that I may airbrush them, but I can't figure out how to break them down.  There's a guy on YouTube who shows tabs to be pushed in on the underside of his coaches, much like IHC did, but mine don't have the tabs; maybe older models?  Does anybody have any experience/insight/suggestions?

Kitbash for better running N scale locomotives

MRH has speak a lot about N scale since the last issue of june.

The "case of N scale" has open a lot of reflection about N scale and the possibility this scale offer.

We often forget N scale is the second scale used after HO scale.

I open this topic about kitbash for better running locomotives in N scale and particularly Steam power.

O Gauge Lionel loco internal driver ID, Trouble shoot

Please see attached pics.

Can someone help me identify vintage...and likely required source voltage. I'm thinking it's 17-24V   AC, but applied that with no response. Likely DOA but if any troubleshooting suggestions, would appreciate. Manually, One set of wheels turns freely (with resistance). The other turns, then locks up.

appreciate the review/input. Thx!

Help identifying On30 Hopper?

Hello all,

Please see pics. Looking fr some help identifying the "type" of freight car. I think it's a Hopper, though have found nothing in Google images that match that center ridge running down length of car. Besides name would you als be able to advise what typical content it was designed for? Sand maybe?

Appreciate your input

Narrow gauge steam, tender...how to test / troubleshoot

Hello all,

Please See pics. Received this from my dad. It appears that it uses tender for power circuit, though I can't get it to run. I've connected variable 24VDC (+ and -) to various points with no results so may in fact be DOA. However, was wondering if any out there could suggest a couple of connection points to know for sure. I'm getting some buzzing contacting around the tender trucks....but that's it.

Appreciate the input!!

Walthers E8A-A George Washington set

I'm  curious what others think of the Walthers C&O GW set. I couldn't tell whether the set is two powered units or one powered and one dummy unit. I was looking at the set at trainworld: https://www.trainworld.com/manufacturers/walthers-ho-n/walthers-920-42361-emd-e8a-a-set-loksound-select-dcc-sound-c-o-4018-4027/

Cutting stick on lead weights

So I'm going to try the lead stick on wheel balancing weights for my HO bulkhead flat cars.   They're the common 1/4 oz ones and I need to cut about a 1/4 of the long side off so they fit under the frame.   I have a hand full of cars to do and each car needs as many as I can fit under there.  Anyone have a good way to cut them?   AND yes I know they are lead and I don't mind working with lead.

BTW, I went the stick on weight route because I was having a hard time finding true lead shot.

Thanks

Steve

Recommendations for starter set in HOn30

Hi, I am looking to acquire some initial rolling stock for Hn30 to try out a small layout.  What I would like to purchase is something "hobby grade" that will run well at low speeds etc, and avoid purchasing "toy" items.  (So for standard gauge, I would say the comparison is something like Athearn / Atlas to start.)  I have seen the vintage MiniTrains (Roco?) and the newer BCH MiniTrains, Roco and others.  I have seen that you can get Kato drives and assemble all kinds of things on that chassis and purchase a variety of cars.  However I am thinki

Help with HO Scale EMD NW2 - probably BLI

All,  I have been given an assignment to detail and paint in HO scale the Domtar 1001, an EMD NW2.    This would be a late production NW2, so we have identified the probable candidate as BLI's NW2, which represents a phase V NW2.  The chief spotting feature of this phase was the tapered hood down toward the front cab windows.  The earlier instances had a stepped hood, like what the Kato NW2 shows.
