Zip Texturing using concrete coloring

Hi Guys,

A quick question about zip texturing.

In Australia I am having a hard time finding the dry/powdered paint in the craft stores. When I do find it, it is usually bright blues, reds, yellows, etc.

I was in the hardware store on Monday, well several hardware stores to be honest and noticed there were concrete coloring powders in similar colors those Joe speaks about in his videos.

Do you think this would work with Plaster of Paris as an alternative for zip texturing colors? Anybody tried it?

Regards,

Nigel

Planning Ahead - Need to think of material that doesn't stick to plaster

This is tad too early to be concerned about this, but I like to be prepared and plan ahead, so by the time I get to a project, I have all the information i need to begin.  Here's the issue:

Woodland Scenics Layout Kits

so I'm finding it hard to put together a good layout design, and i like the way that the instructions are laid out. has anyone had any experience with the HO Grand Valley? (Or the other kit I can't remember the name of)

what are you meant to put the layout on? do you need to make a frame? or can you buy one?

is it worth doing for an easy way in?

or should i put the money towards a layout that someone else has already made?

thanks in advance!

What to use to make a vid of layout?

Hi all just want to know what you use to get the vids of your layouts.  I looked on E-bay and found some mini recorders in all price range including some that looked like cig lighters LOL.  Just need some advise.

Thanks,

Gary

Bridges and Grades

Just curious about this topic.  I live in NW Louisiana where it is flat compared to Colorado so there is not much to compare to. I know that railroads tried to avoid grades as much as possible. My question is when the route was in a continuous steady grade and a bridge was required was the bridge set to meet the same grade or was it set level to cross the terrain? I have read some opinions that prototype bridges were set level because heavy braking on a downhill grade on a bridge would cause damage to the bridge structure and foundation.  Is there any truth to this?

Using WS Water Products and Ground Foam

The PC&L RR continues moving along. I asking the group about WS Water products. See the pictures below. The cliff is made from green florist foam with the rocks hot glued on. The base of the layout is green insulation purchased a Home Depot glued to a 1/2 inch piece of plywood.

HO railroad workers of the '70s

Can someone suggest a good source (manufacturers and part numbers, please) of railroad worker figures appropriate for the 1970s? Something in the line of freight service brakemen and conductors?

So far a search is turning up lots of bib overalls and Cromer hats, and looking at highway workers etc. gets me into high-visibility orange vests and so on.
