Scenery and structures

too much weathering powder resulted in structure which is too dark - how do I correct this?

I am building a steam era roundhouse (the old SS Ltd kit) and overused black weathering powder, resulting in the structure looking too dark.

Since I have sprayed the powder with acrylic fixative, how can I correct the overall look and feel?

Suggestions anyone?

BTW, people are correct about the lighting being construction lighting.  "Run time" model lighting is still in the discussion phase, so we will bring some temporary incandescents in for evaluating weathering changes.

How to paint mountains

I've posted this on another model train forum, but haven't received many replies yet, so I'm posting it here as well. I've finally finished adding plaster and sheetrock all-purpose joint compound to my mountain that was built with cardboard webbing frames and plaster cloth. Now I want to paint it.....but I'm nervous that it won't come out right.

Static grass applicator. Yet another design.

I have wanted to have one of these static grass applicators for a while now and I must have googled everything there is to read about them.

When I finally got to action I choose the easiest way, the flyswatter/tea strainer version. I shorted the bleeding resistor and tried both with and without bypassed filter capacitor. But I was not happy with the result. The flock just fell down. I noticed that there was some kind of static field as the majority of fibers stood up. But not nearly enough to be a good result.

New structures for South Carnegie on the Pittsburgh & West Virginia RR

I have been working on the structures for South Carnegie on my P&WV. I just finished a Downtown Deco building. I never have built one of there kits before. I did what the instruction said and sealed the castings with white spray primer. The walls where then finished with the acrylic Folk Arts craft paints from Michaels. You must thin the paints down. One drop goes a long way to finish the walls with. I am really pleased with the results. I am so happy I just ordered some more of the kits hydrocal kits from them to be used at the entrance to my steel mill.

Help needed Walthers kit instructions

Hello everyone!

I'm hoping to get a little assistance.

I just received a Walthers kit, the Allied Rail Rebuilders, kit number 933-3016.

It is missing its instruction sheet. Does anyone have a set they could copy and mail to me? (USA)

I'm sure I could muddle through it ok, but I'd feel better with the instructions.

The kit is retired, Walthers can't help. Hopefully someone here can.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

Petersburg Junction

I recently completed a small scene on my layout and thought I'd post a few pictures. PN Cabin is located at Petersburg Junction on my Chesapeake, Wheeling and Erie Railroad. The branch line heads off the main here and goes through the tunnel in the background to Petersburg, WV (staging). I have wanted to model a decommissioned train order signal ever since finding a photo of one several years ago, and this seemed like the perfect location.

Field Fencing

Does anyone know of a source for field fencing as depicted in the photo below? I checked a recent Walthers catalog and nothing appeared to fit the bill. I also wondered through Michael's yesterday and couldn't find anything suitable.

Thanks,

HO Scale Sea Wall

I'm looking for a steel sea wall in HO scale similar to what Brawa used to sell for my car float scene but I can only find one product out there (the Brawa wall no longer exists?  At least I can't find it anywhere...) which is pre-weathered and not really what I'm after.

Any help would be appreciated!
