Track Occupancy
Hi gang. I'm looking for simple and economical occupancy detection circuit to follow a train from staging through a helix. I'm thinking an infrared detection circuit to turn on a series of LED's as the trains pass to and from staging and through a long multiple loop helix would be the way to go. This is for a friend that has a limited budget. I'm willing to build them for him. I just don't have a circuit diagram.
Any ideas or product recommendations?
A Question about N-Scale PECO INSULFROG Switches
I have wanted to use N-Gauge Peco Code 55 track on my new layout. I have not been able to find Insulfrog switches in Peco Code 55, only Electrofrog. I can find Peco Insulfrog switches in Code 80, but have wanted to stick with Code 55 track.
Does anyone know where I can find Peco Code 55 Insulfrog switches? Will I need to switch my focus to another manufacturer, like ME to find them?
Thanks for your help.

Atlas Code 83 sectional track
I see Atlas sells its sectional code 83 curved track in 18 and 22 inch radius in a package of 6. How many sections does it take to make a circle?

Re-engineered Atlas track bumper
I am not sure it is prototypical. The Walthers track bumper is way better, but I just can't throw stuff away without at least trying a little re-engineering. Besides, this is for my buddy's layout but as I sat here and looked at the new version, I thought it might have been possible to find something like this in a busy passenger terminal where a really beefy train control device could serve a legitimate purpose.

A HOn3 Crossing for the PC&N Ry
One of the last challenges for the track gang on the PC&N Ry was the HOn3 crossing at Equinox. It is the end of the line and also interchange point to the outside world. Due to tight space constraints, the crossing is located in one of the legs of the wye that has a 21" radius, the other half of the crossing is straight.
I will not be able to cut in the gaps until after it is permanently installed. While it took some time, I really enjoyed building this custom crossing.

Programming track preference
Gang,
I'm looking for preference on programming tracks. It seems like there are two ways to look at this issue:
1) programming track that is part of the layout with scenery, etc. Sometimes isolated with electrical switches, etc. Sometimes, a piece of track completely isolated from the railroad to ensure components do not accidentally get fried. The computer interface can easily be connected to the DCC loconet.
Silencing the gears... Brass steam DCC conversion.
Hi everyone,
I have successfully finished my first brass steam repower and DCC conversion on a 1960's Tenshodo Great Northern C-1 0-8-0. Everything works but I have a minor issue.
crossings....bad ?
Did I read somewhere (not sure where) that using crossings, say 15, 20 ,25 degrees etc. are a bad thing and lead to problems?
I going to run N gauge PECO code 80 (starting gathering /hoard ,flex track ,turnouts etc.)
Thankyou

DCC for Tomix N Scale Bullet Train
I recently become the proud owner of an N scale Tomix 92815 500 series Shikansen after lusting for one for literally years. Now I'm looking to install DCC in it - but my Google-fu is failing me. I can't seem to find where anyone else has installed DCC in this little gem. I know I'm going to need three decoders - one for the motor car, and one function-only decoder in each end for the lights. Does anyone have any experience or references for this?

O.K Now i'm computerized and I need help
To my N scale layout, I have installed a small laptop (windows 7 and JMRI) connected to a Digitrax PR3 Xtra with its own PS 14, networked to a Digitrax DCS 210 command station. The Bachrus Speedo has been added to the system and ALL drivers and comm ports are properly set up. I am using the LocoNet 100 mode to program using a program track connected to the DCS 210.
I have 2 problems with this setup !!!
1. When I try to use the Bachrus spedo to set up the speed table, No power is sent to the program track. The train don't run. I get a flatline graph.
