Overlad 100t.oil-electric brass loco-What sound decoder?

I'am an Italian fan of North American Railways.

My question is.

What type of sound decoder is correct for mount in an Overland GE 100t oil-electric locomotive?

The prime mover of this laco was an IR 600 Hp 12 cil. (according with "The Second Diesel Spotter's Guide" by Jerry A. Pinkepank).

Decoder programmer and tester

Got tired of trying to program and test decoders on the layout so decided to put the laser to work and make a dedicated place with all the right equipment on hand

Started with a new Digitrax PR 3 plus  Power Pax and ESU decoder tester which have been in a drawer for years as it was a pain to get them out and use them on the layout

Here is the result of an afternoons work and hopefully a much easier route to programming and testing prior to installation of decoders

My version of servo controlled turnouts

Been thinking about this for awhile and took the plunge last week.

I needed a switch / control mechanism that I could mount in foam and be able to remove easily if needed.  I didn't want something I would have to destroy scenery to work on it.

Here is a link to a youtube video that shows the operation of the first one I did.  Have done 3 more and so far they all work fine.

An Armchair Assessment of Turn-Key DCC WIFI Systems

This post is based on published specifications and claims. It is not a review based on hands on experience with MRC's system. It is not an endorsement of the system, it is a discussion of what they have done and how it may be viewed for improving DCC systems in the future.

Wathers new switch control system

I just watched the new movie on Walthers' website regarding new items shown at the NMRA convention. If particular interest was the switch control system which controls turnouts with servo motor, has a DCC interface, lever switches which can be used to automatically change frog polarity, signal inputs and the like, plus various cables, power supplies and on and on.

Scratchbuilding diamond crossings

I'm building, in N scale, the IC-CB&Q-CGW trackwork and operations at East Dubuque, Ill., on the Mississippi River. On a 9-1/2 degree curve, the IC's single main crosses the CB&Q's double mains, which are on slight curves and pinching together (not parallel).

Digitrax, MRC or NCE...which do you prefer?

I am planning my N-scale model railroad, and want to use DCC.

For those of you who have used and/or are using DCC, which system do you prefer?  NCE? Digitrax? MRC?

I have read much about these, and am getting overwhelmed.  This will be my first layout with DCC, so please remember I am a first timer.  What are the advantages and drawbacks of each?

Thanks.

DCC++ Power Supply...

Hi All,   I'm setting up a small test track (HO/On30) using a ArduinoUno as my DCC++ system and wondering about how much power I can (and should) run through the motor shield.

I have a 18V laptop power supply that I use on my PTB-100 for programming and would like to also use it for the MotorShield.  Is 18V too much?   It's also 6A, which I thought was pretty beefy for a laptop power brick, but it is what it is...

Headlamps on Brass Steam

Hi everyone,

I am looking to add a headlight to my brass 0-8-0 made in the 1960's by Tenshodo. Does anybody have good tutorials on how to do this or recommendations for lights/leds to use? The light is not mounted to the smokebox and hangs out from it's center on it's front face, see the Great Northern C-1 class 0-8-0's for a better picture.

I am doing a two phase DCC conversion starting with the headlamp and motor and then installing a light on the tender with a speaker later.

Thanks ahead of time.
