Auto Reverse and or Buss Line

I need a bit of help with my TOMA design. The layout is in three modules right now. The layout basically consists of two loops with a short connection track between the two. The two loops have some track that branches off from each.

1) Should auto reversing circuits be placed on the left module for each reversing loop that starts on this module?

2) Since there are multiple tracks branching from each loop, should a buss wire be used from the AR's and then feeder wires used to power the branching track?

Keep Alive On A Single Funtion Output ?

Would it be possible to attach a small capacitor on a single decoder output ?

Painting Peco Turnouts

Hi,

I'm hoping to paint some track soon.  I use Peco Insulfgrogs.  I read a lot about being careful to keep paint out of places where it doesn't belong but haven't been able to find out exactly what to cover.  The best I could find out was this video.  Does his method look correct?  Just cover the places where the metal touches metal?

As always thanks!

Improving old Atlas Code 100 turnouts

I have conducted web searches from time to time and found little to no information or pictures from anyone who has attempted to improve Atlas Code 100 turnouts. So, why did I start wondering about doing this? You're reading another entry from the "King of Cheap". I have picked up used Atlas #6 turnouts various places, usually for not more than $2 or $3 dollars each. The thought was that the stamped, riveted AND VERY cheezy looking points were not a big deal to me, because Code 100 track was going to be used in hidden areas and staging track only.

Scratch build automatic KADEE locomotive uncoupling

Hi,

I find this clever system on You tube watching some videos about couplers and uncouplers.

Seems this guy use a small cell phone vibrating motor to do the job.

As seen in the video the system is tiny and seems quite easy to put on a HO locomotives even in a Nscale steam tender.

May be some of us will do a try to the trick; would be nice to share.

Sound issue with ESU LokSound decoder

I have several Atlas diesels that came with LokSound decoders installed. The appropriate horn for the diesels is a Wabco E-2.  After adjusting the overall sound volume using Decoder Pro, the horn is very quiet.  Other horns are louder but the E-2 is not.  I can't figure out how to increase the horn volume.  Help is appreciated!

Walthers 130' Turntable and DCC

I have a Walther's  130' Turntable that is DCC "ready".  I will have to double check the instruction sheet as to adding DCC to it, but I was wondering if anyone has DCC-ed one of those turntables.

Mulling over track options for next layout

I saved all of the track from my previous layout and likely will be re-using quite a bit of it.  But I am hoping and expecting the next layout will be larger and I will need to be purchasing track, and in some cases, maybe upgrading some of the track in yards.  That being the case, I am mulling over what turnouts and track to buy.

Digitrax & JMRI question

I have a Digitrax  DCS 210 command station (Evolution) connected to a laptop through a Digitrax PR3.  I also have a Bachrus speedo connected to the laptop. I will be using JMRI Decoder Pro.

1. Should I program my locos on the speedo using a programming track, or use ops mode using main line power ? This is with speed matching in mind.

2.Should I use the programming track outlet on the PR3 for programming sound units? There is a 15 VDC power supply connected to the PR3 for this purpose.

Step by step guide on (re)building a yard with a #6 on #4 angle

Hey all,

So at the club, the guys that originally built this layout used Atlas Custom line #4 turnouts throughout the 2 yards. This has, of course, led to less than satisfactory results.
