Track and electrical/DCC

Did I fry it ?
So, whenever you pull a shell, which you happen to know is loose, ALWAYS do it on the workbench away from the DCC. I did that and one of the track pickups snagged on the shell and shorted to the frame. DARN IT !!! It happened very quickly.
Looking to add DCC to a HO Scale Bachmann USRA 0-6-0 Steam locomotive
Hi, Everyone. I'm looking to add DCC to a Bachmann Union Pacific USRA 0-6-0 w/Vandy Tender.
New Tech DCC (an open letter to DCC manufacturers
The recent LCC thread and the two threads on ne handsets got me thinking. What follows is my personal thoughts.
i think that DCC is getting the blame for problems that are not really it's own fault. Many in this hobby blame the difficulty we have setting up a DCC system and or a new engine/ decoders on DCC. A lot of us use Decoder Pro to avoid or work around some of these issues. But really is the problem with DCC or with the systems currently being sold?
TORTOISE SWITCH MACHINES FOR N-SCALE TURNOUTS?
I am planning on using Tortoise switch machines on my n-scale layout. I have watched a number of videos and read a bit about them, and they seem straight forward.
One question, though. Are there Tortoise switch machines made specifically for N-Scale? Are they "one-size-fits-all"?
I ask because it seems that you would need to consider the throw distance for an N-Scale turnout, and make adjustments for that in the Tortoise set-up. It appears no such adjustment is needed for HO-scale.
Tie Rack Jigs and Curved Track Arrangements
Im underway preparing and laying some sections of track on my logging line. My TOMA sawmill module will have all hand laid code 55.
Over the years i have hand laid small segments of straight track. No problem there but now im starting to tackle smooth flowing cuves for a realistic look.
My question is to anyone hand laying: How are you laying out ties on curves?

Milestone - JMRI controls complete
At the end of 2014 I returned to the hobby after a few decades of no railroad activity with the exception of reading magazines and "virtual" operations on the computer.
I built a small switching railroad with the purpose of learning about DCC, JMRI and a lot of the things that had changed since the early 1980s.
I started with DCC, added JMRI's Decoder Pro and Panel Pro. Along the way to getting my own layout under control, I built the control systems for our local club and helped another friend build the panels for his empire.
Single point switch?
Hi All, has anyone here built single point switches( common on trolley or interurban lines). The CCT had some here and there and I'd like to build some at my "Shops" scene. The moving point appears to be on the outside of the curve pushing on the face of the wheel flange instead of on the inside of the curve pushing on the back of the wheel flange. The throw handle looks like a short lever near the point, just outside the rails. What I'm trying to figure out is the geometry and design of the non moving point side of the turnout.
Tcs decoder
Hi, I just purchased a Tcs ka4 decoder for my Bachmann DD40 ax loco, but not sure how to wire it or if it's compatible. I have a sondtraxx sound decoder in it. Can anybody help me out.
Thanks,
Chuck
Yard Ladder System
I have been planning a new basement layout. I am trying to make sure I have plenty of room for my yard and the necessary ladders. I like what I see with the ME ladder system switches, but I'm curious if anyone else had used them? Reliable? How much space does the ladder take up? I printed the templates and laid them out. Looks like the a-e system takes up about 4 linear feet. Is that what others are seeing?
