QSI/Walthers Decoder Help
I acquired a QSI decoder ostensibly removed from a NIB Walthers GP30, and I need the pinouts for the decoder so I can install it in another locomotive.
The markings on the chip in the socket are:
HO140F34
GP30
Copyright 2006, QSI
and there are additional markings on the PCB itself: 050-0061-1 is silk screened on the PCB.
I think I can determine the motor outputs (blue connector) and the track inputs, but nothing else....I'd rather not guess.
It has a reed switch that is probably used to control the sound, I think.
Flex Track
I'm modeling in code 100 track and most of my track is Atlas flex track and turnouts. I do have some ME flex track. Probably not best to mix different MFG track together, but noticed to make curves it seems the ME flex track is better that Atlas flex track. Due to room size I can't go with big broad curves, but between 24 and 30" would work. Know those curves are somewhat tight for the bigger pieces of rolling stock.
Wondering if most people are using Atlas Flex track or other brands when it comes to laying out your curves?

An invitation to my Wordpress Blog
As I've progressed in my latest round of model railroading, I've concentrated mostly on electronics and DCC. My most favorite new toy is DCC++. I was asked recently to do a clinic at our regional annual convention concerning my experiments with DCC++.
Honeywell LED 4' Strip Lights
All,
Happy Memorial Day and thank you to all of you who have or are who are currently serving.
I'm looking at a 10 pack of Honeywell LED Strip Lights for my shop. I was wondering if anyone is using these for general model lighting in their layout room? Sam's Club has them on sale for $285 for the 10 pack and they are linkable. Apparently they cannot be flush mounted and the lens are clear, those are the only two negatives I can find at least as far a shop lighting is concerned.

Loco runs on Sprog...not on EasyDCC
Okay, this is very, very weird.
I have an Atlas MP15DC that I just rewired with a LokSound Select Direct decoder. My workbench DCC setup is a Sprog2 using JMRI and on it it works just fine - easily programmed and tested with all sounds working (and adjusted).

Micro Engineering Site Down ?
The Micro Engineering site now just goes to a new domain site and my e-mails to them keep getting bounced back as un-deliverable. (?) Something up ? It appears as though their domain / e-mail has expired.
Mark.
Peco switch problem...
So I just bought 6 brand new peco code 83 switches, 3 rh, and 3 lh. Three of the switches snap normally to both positions (one rh, two lh), but the other three do not - as soon as I try to switch the point it automatically snaps back to the original position. Essentially it only "snaps" to one position... Not sure if I'm missing something obvious but I looked and couldn't find much to remediate... Just curious if anyone knows about this! Thanks in advance!
Connecting switching power supplies at ground?
Hello,
Can I tie the grounds of switching power supplies together without causing problems? I'm sure the loads (positive side) on each supply are not particularly well balanced at the moment.
I'm at the point of segregating LED lighting strips into areas. I have three and may expand to four 12 volt 33 amp switching power supplies. Wiring the control panel would become a lot easier if I could tie all the 12 volt grounds together. I put a VOM between the grounds of two and got 40 volts and decided to ask questions.

LED strip power supply cooling fan
Hi all,
I recently installed and wired a 12 VDC, 30A (sold by Micro-Mark and eBay) power supply to power two LED lighting strips on my layout. Each LED strip consists of a 5m long, 300 unit, type 2835 rated at 24W. Each strip is connected to the power supply through a PWM dimmer.

Ballasted track noise level - a very unscientific opinion
I've been ballasting track and have noticed an (expected) increase in the noise a train makes when traveling upon it. My layout is topped with 2" foam, has cork roadbed, and WS ballast affixed with diluted white glue. I'd say that the sound difference between my unballasted and ballasted track is about 30% louder after ballasting. Much has been shared about noise levels on this site and a search using the box in the upper right will return many postings.
