LokSound Select sound file question

I just ordered a new LokSound Select decoder.  Does it come with the latest Alco sound files as shown on ESU's web site, or do I need to download and install them using the LokProgrammer?

Advantage Code 80 or Code 55 N Scale Track?

I find my head spinning at times when I think about using Code 55 or Code 80 track on my new N Scale layout.

What experience have you had with each?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?  The good, the bad and the ugly!

LokPilot and Full Throttle

Any news on updating the LokPilot to the Full Throttle features.   Had heard the ESU was working on this but nothing since, anyone know how they are doing on this?

LCC - it's not replacing DCC, it's adding to it.

I brought up LCC (Layout Command Control) in another thread and was asked by someone if they would have to replace all their decoders... in short, LCC is not replacing DCC.

Instead, LCC is a separate standard for doing things that DCC, which really has limited bandwidth, shouldn't be.

opinions on a coal branch

My "mainlines" have 42" radius curves, around the walls. Often, I don't worry about operations and I just like to watch the trains run.

However, I do like operations and I want "local freights" and switch jobs to have something to do other than work a few inches from the mainline. So, my thought is to have branch lines with much tighter radii than the mainlines. If I do 3x the car length, most "local" cars should work and look okay on 22" radius track, correct?

Peco turnout modification question

I have several Peco #8 turnouts where the wing rail and guardrail are slightly higher than the stock rails and the frog heel rails.  When my engines go over the turnouts they pick the end of the wing/guardrails and lose power or derail.  Can I use a file to shave down the end of the wing/guardrails or do I need to use a Dremel tool?

Loksound question - what is "Shift Mode"

Both the LokProgrammer and JMRI DecoerPro have a Shift mode option in the logical outputs section of the function mapping. The Loksound Select decoder manual merely mentions that Shift is a modifier.  The v4.0 decoder manual provides only slightly more detail.  An internet search only reveals a couple of postings on other forums where that question was never actually answered, and one possible use case in a compound/mallet steam engine.

DCC review for possible issues

Good day everyone, I have been working on a slightly larger version of this track plan but the track work remains the same, just the left and the right sides of the layout are longer.  This design was in MR in the early 90s and was at that time wired for DC.

Can anyone see any possible areas for concern when wiring this layout to DCC?  Any specific areas I should isolate or require an Auto Reversing module?  I don't clearly see any areas but being new to wiring a DCC layout I thought it couldn't hurt to ask.

Thank you in advance.

Fastening ME and CVT Flex Track to Homasote and/or Cork Roadbed

Good evening.

What method(s) is currently in vogue for fastening Micro Engineering Flex Track and Central Valley HO Tie Strips to Homasote or Cork Roadbed?

Would prefer a method that allows the Flex Track and Tie Strip to be easily moved and/or removed..

Thank you.
