Tight radius helix questions
As I design my newest model railroad I have decided that I would like an upper level that would depict a logging area. My problem is the real estate needed for a helix to get to the upper level. I only have room for an 18" to 20" radius for the helix. I realize that the tight radius also means a steeper climb. I plan on only running geared locomotives with log cars and maybe an occasional flat car or box car with supplies on the helix. Does anyone have any experience with a tight radius helix? Will it even work?

ProtoThrottle at Trainfest this weekend
For those attending Trainfest in Milwaukee this weekend, please stop by to demo Iowa Scaled Engineering’s ProtoThrottle. Michael Petersen and Nathan Holmes from Iowa Scaled will be on hand to show you how the ProtoThrottle can propel your diesel operations to the next level of realism.
Meet and talk with Michael and Nathan on Saturday at these times:

Any thoughts on Quickie Swithches?
Hi All,
I picked up some electrical parts at an estate sale this weekend. One of the things I picked up was a box of parts including some Kadee Quickie switches as well as some SPST pushbutton switches from the Pushbutton People. Aside from the Pushbutton People sounding like a failed 80's band. I'd love to hear from anyone who has used either of these. I understand these are ancient, but it might be fun to see if there's an application on my current layout.
Anyone have thoughts about wiring these?
Thanks,
Peco Code 83
I've ordered Peco Code 83 turnouts from the UK to get a good price. I ordered SL8381 and 8382 electrofrogs but the email from the supplier says 8381 and 8382 insulfrogs, Aren't they just the same thing with a short insulated metal section that can be fed with current if I wish?

Mini-360 DC-DC Buck converter step down module
In keeping with advice found on this site I use my DCC bus for track power and nothing else. For lights, turnout motors, signage and what have you I use a seperate bus powered by a 15V laptop power supply. That works great for LED lighting because as long as you use the right resistor LEDs don't care what voltage you use. Not so for Tortoise switch motors though, or Miller Engineering signs, or a turntable motor.
Are point to point turnouts problematic?
Hi Folks,
I am developing a track plan and don't know if point to point switches would be "building in" a potential problem.
I would be using this configuration in an HOn3 section of a combined HO/HOn3 mining layout, and operations in the area would be slow speed at best.
Thoughts and suggestions?
Thanks,
George
spiking rail
Will spikes hold code 83 rail on cork road bed glued over pink 2" foam for turnouts ? Thanks

Bus wires - CCA?
I am in the process of ordering my electrical components so I can run the wiring under each sections as I start to build each sections. My plan is 12AWG stranded for the bus wires and then 18 or 20AWG solid for the feeders. I will be using terminal strips for all under layout connections of bus to feeders and PowerPole connectors to connect between sections.

Diagnosing Track Problems
I have finally started my layout, the Texas unstoppable Fallen Flags RR ( TuFF ) and my first TOMA N Scale module, a 18" x 60" module that will be the nexus of my small pike. I have come upon a problem I am hoping the much more experienced models can help me with.
