Dream and design

Fess up: what is the worst planning mistake you have actually built?
There's an active thread lamenting the tendency of beginners to over stuff layouts. There are also discussions about the evils of helices, double deck layouts, tight aisles and a plethora of other sins.
Most of this is theoretical though, criticisms of proposed layouts. I am interested in hard facts-- what planing decision did you make, build and regret later? It's OK to confess to common pitfalls, as duplicate disasters show how prevalent a problem is.
So is the Tymesaver really all that hard to work on?
Layout Planning and common sense
Has common sense left the layout planning process?
All too often I see layouts being planned and built that are way too grandiose for the size of the room. Staging for hundreds of cars and rolling stock that could never be run in any reasonable operating session. Poor access to rear areas of the bench work, tight bottlenecks between layout boards.
The N-Scale Uwharrie & Pisgah RR - Any thoughts?
I thought I would share the plan for my N-Scale railroad, The Uwharrie & Pisgah RR.
This is a freelance railroad depicting the mid-1960's to mid-1970's on the Southern Railroad and N&W when diesel was taking over from steam. It is meant to depict the North Carolina/ VA/ WV region, where lumber, coal and livestock (pigs) are the primary industries.
The overall dimension this walk-in layout is 10' X 8'. I will be using Code 80 track. Maximum grade is 2.5%.
Hope you like it.
Rerailers as Road Crossings
Hey All,
I am running into an issue using Atlas Rerailers as road crossings. Partly because my dad drilled into my head you use a rerailer on every side of the train table and before/after tunnels and bridges.

Researching Oberle Jarde
In researching my prototype location, which is Richmond ,In there was an online industry by the name of Oberle Jarde. I tried to do a search on the internet for them and came up with nothing. Does anybody know what type of business this was? I did find out that they were getting 15-20 carloads a month, but I have no idea what that was.
New layout plan
Here is the initial plan of my new layout.
18 x 27'
One Yard, wye, return loop, 3 passing sidings with industries.
SP freelance, mountain railroad. Approximate main line 135 feet.

If you were to start over today what era and area might you choose to model?
If you were given a chance to do it all again, knowing what you know now, what time period would you choose to model. It can be as specific as you like from a particular day to a decade to model or more if so inclined. It could also be a moving time period such as Joe F. did on his layout changing year by year as he moved from the beginning to the end of his decade.
Depew, Lancaster & Western in HO scale.
Howdy all,
I thought I'd share another track plan I've been working on, this time in HO, based on Genesee Valley Transportation's Depew, Lancaster and Western railroad in Batavia, New York.

linear shelf layout or u shaped
i'm trying to decide if it would be better to build a shelf layout along one wall if so rhe dimension would be 15"× 10 feet or would it be better to have a u shaped layout with each section being 15"× 60" and operate from the middle. opinions please.
Thank you
Turnout on a Bridge
I've never heard of it happening in the prototype, but my Chief Conductor Wyatt insists on it. The future had spoken.
