The one industry concept

Mr. Six had done an excellent job recently document his one town approach to modeling.

That got me thinking about a one industry concept for a further "downsizing" of the railroad.

Anybody modeling a one industry layout?  Tell us what you model and why.

FKD Back to the Basement Redesigned N Scale Layout

Xtrack V24 11 Nov 18

Version 24 of my evolving layout plan

Layout features:
  • Main line is DCC and while most curves are greater there are a few tighter curves at 13" (mostly hidden).

Selling my train.

I find it interesting that the topic of selling a layout or house with a layout is at a relative forefront.  In the past I’ve marveled at how a car or a motorcycle have depreciated in a very short time to a very small amount.  I began to realize long ago that artsy things like paintings and model railroads were sold for pennies on a dollar of their “time” worth.  Selling a home with a Model Railroad included is no more than a hallucination.  Not there,,,,,,,,,,,yet..........

Best source for Troffer 2x2 LED lights for basement ceiling

Today my wife and were able to get about 900 square feet of suspended ceiling second hand in good condition for our basement which we are in the process of finishing.

I would like to install 2x2 Troffer LED light fixtures in that drop ceiling for room/layout lighting.

5000K temp (mid day) seems a good color temp.

Has anyone found a good source with decent CRI rating and price for 2x2 Troffer suspended ceiling lights?

I've done a bit of looking on Amazon and Ebay - but there is a lot of stuff out there.

New Layout - The PURR

Hi everyone.  I am posting an HO scale layout that I have been dreaming about for years!  It is time to take some action.  I am posting here, hoping to update periodically.

Yard adjacent to Staging vs Yard at a half-way point, and railroad direction?

I'd like to have discussion about the impact of positioning of my main yard in the overall diagram of traffic. I'll use my existing plan for a visual reference:

Staging tracks design input needed

In preparation for a several day visit from my almost 3 year old grandson, I have started the work on the staging for the NNE Scenic Model Railroad.

The staging also serve as a return loop enabling continuous operation of the Exeter + Rockingham Junction portion of my layout that now has track laid and wired. That will allow me to run trains in a continuous loop with him, let him press the controller buttons, and hopefully intrigue him with the train leaving the layout through the wall and then appearing coming back in elsewhere.

Is there a Doctor in the house...?

...Or better yet - a structural engineer?

In order to create an unobstructed aisle around the end of a peninsula, I am planning to move a Lally column (a.k.a jack post) that is the center-most column of the (3) that support my 30' long main header beam of my house. This beam is (4) 2" x 10" 16' sandwiched / glued / nailed.  Each column supports respectively (2) full 16' beams, and (2) seams between the (4) adjacent beams that make up the sandwich.

The ANYWHERE Limited Layout

Having submitted a few ideas in the past I had to take everyone’s knowledgeable input and leverage some strong thinking ( yeah I know the smell of burned rubber is pungent ) into the less is more concept and looking at space and time constraints and how to fit this into my current work schedule.

Minnesota Transfer Railway Map(s) and Details

Looking for map(s) and details of the Minnesota Transfer Railway and the interchanges with other lines, specifically NP and CRIP. I have been Googling for the last hour and cannot find anything except references to "Gateway to the Northwest - the Story of the Minnesota Transfer Railway" which I cannot find offered for sale (and probably couldn't afford anyway!). I am hoping to design a location for my model railroad that could at least allude to a real location.

Thanks for any help!
