Zimo sugar cube speaker for Athearn GP38-2?

I have an Athearn Genesis GP38-2 with a Tsunami decoder.  I'm interested in replacing its speaker with a Zimo sugar cube speaker. Can anyone make a recommendation as to speaker size?

Thanks!

Loco runs too fast speed step 1

Hey everyone I am trying to speed match my locos but I have found about 7 of them that just run too fast on speed step 1.  I have decreased CV2 to 0 and they still go like a rocket.  I read on another post that you could try and lower the CV5 and CV6 to a lower value.  I have done this as well and still the same result.  Its like there is no super slow speed and I can't figure out how to change it or even slow it down.  I am using mainly Digitrax decoders with a couple Lenz thrown in as well.

Genesis MP15AC

I would like to hear from someone who has installed a Keep Alive(or any other brand) capacitor in an Athearn Genesis MP15AC.  I would like to know what brand, installation hints, etc.

Thanks,

Rusty & Sooty

My mom is my greatest critic, whether it's my acting work or my train modeling, I can count on her to give me honest critical feedback. She had a few things to say about my first photos of the Lionel FA... well, she actually had a single thing to say: "top not rusty". Hopefully I have fixed that to her liking.

Genesee & Wyoming Orange

I'm looking to do some Quebec Gatineau units in the parent Genesee & Wyoming orange.  Any thoughts or recommendations for a paint match.  There doesn't seem to be any specific GWRY orange out there, although individual units show some remarkable variations in what should be a baseline colour.

NP GP9 Number 261

Encouraged by others who are sharing their experiences here, I thought I'd try to create a thread about the process of creating a HO scale GP9 of Northern Pacific Number 261.

Hustler: DCC?

Once I finished Travis 2.0 I was all fired up to add DCC to the little critters. The project promptly ground to a halt. Adding a sound decoder was easy. You go light with the soldering iron and just put wire A where it should go. I use Digitrax SDH166D units in all my locomotives. They cost less than $50, which has allowed me to put them in all my locomotives (3 so far). I know there are allegedly better sounding decoders, but they are beyond my budget. They still sound like steam or diesel, and that works for me.

Tales From The Paintshop

I have models from Z to G - Z, N, HO, Lionel, and 1:29, to be specific, and one of these little gems is a Lionel ALCO FA from the post-war era. Originally, the FA was painted for Union Pacific, but somewhere in the late 1980s I decided that it would look better in a different scheme. First it got a stylish dark blue and dark grey scheme with silver trim, and then - for reasons I cannot begin to explain - I repainted it gold. Solid gold. Solid metallic gold.

Hobby Black Metal Blackener - Any Tips?

I need to blacken some perimeter handrails that came with five Caboose Industries tank car kits. Out of the box the handrails are a shiny brass-ey metal color. They might be brass but I'm not sure. I'd prefer to not paint them as any future bumping of the handrails may result in peeling paint flaking off. I'd like to blacken them chemically if possible.

Over the past three weeks, I have converted my layout DCC system from Digitrax to NCE.  What follows is my personal experience on the conversion for a small or medium size layout.
