Diesel locos
CY&PRR - Potato Time
It's potato harvesting time in Central Wisconsin and carloads of this commodity are being shipped to the cities. Here we see CY&P 79, a Fairbanks-Morse H10-44 spotting a couple of Soo Line potato cars in Chicago at the City Fruit Exchange.
How is a diesel locomotive moved DIT?
During the month I model, my prototype moved a few locomotives dead-in-train (DIT, or "boxcar style"). One was an SD38-2 headed off to get a new crankshaft and paint, while the others were old Geeps and MLW M420Rs moving to new owners.
Pumpkin Orange on the way... Update #3!
Good day all,
I started working on another project since my HLCX 3857 is done. Some may remember the GP-35 that went into a bath of alcohol? Well, it got out all shiny and new (not!) and work has begun. I'm modeling QGRY 2500 GP35E, an ex-SP GP35 as you can see with the light positions.
Following the prototype pictures I found, I added as much details as I could. Again, this model is based on the proto version, but is not identical! Here is a link to a proto pic: http://www.railpictures.net/photo/166646/
Cheap 21-pin decoder harnesses, or other alternatives for hard-wiring?
As part of my conversion to from Tsunami to Loksound, I recently took six Loksound Select 21-pin decoders (originally from Bowser and Rivarossi locomotives) in trade. I don't own any locomotives with compatible sockets, so I'm planning to hardwire these. The original owner of the decoders suggested using these TCS harnesses:

How I built Travis 2.0
First off, I took my Hustlers completely apart. I'm gonna reuse everything in this project except these Athearn motors...
Travis Drive 2.0
After the last post I tried a boxcab body. I had tried some from scratch but didn't like them. Then I bought two cabeese and tried a kitbash. Still wasn't right. The Cary shell is almost impossible to find and since everyone and his brother apparently wants one the EBay bids get high real quick.
Budd RDCs
Can anybody tell me whether RDCs had to be turned or could they return to their starting point in reverse?
Reading RR drip strips
Any ideas for Reading style drip strips on "N" gauge diesel? Any way to add them without messing up the paint?
A new comer to the Perkins Sub.
And the only operational loco at the moment! I used to have an Athearn GP35... but it was having issues so I decided to recycle it... to the 99% alcohol bath, to be reborn anew at some point in time! :-)
But... let not the fate of an ill fated loco darken the coming in this world of a new loco!
I have been working on HLCX 3857 for a number of years, on and off, mostly because I needed parts to continue the work, or was afraid to install those fragile 0605 SMD LEDs (headlights), or their smaller counterpart, 0402 (ditchlights)!
