CHANGING DIESEL SHELLS
I HAVE AN ATHEARN GP40. WILL A GP7/GP9 SHELL FIT ON THE CHASSIS?
Back to HO after 20+ Years
Well I have successfully ebay'd completely all of my N-scale related stuff. All rolling stock, loco's, scenery, structures and structure flat scenes. So after deleting a sizeable layout I decided that a small (8 x 10) along the wall HO switching layout would be in order.
I give you the HO scale SW1001
Hello, I'd like to show a product I hope to get out to all those that were looking for this, an HO SW1001. I give you the RDG/CR/NS/CSXT version of the SW1001. Two shell types are available, one with the radiator open(to use etched metal for this) and one without. The photos are of the one with the non open radiator areas. Thoughts?
Lessons learned from hobby fears
My recent victory over a long-held fear of adding ditch lights has prompted me to think about a number of similar concerns I've had over the years and, once they were behind me, the great rewards I discovered hiding on the other side. In hopes of encouraging others who might be letting their own phobias get in the way of their hobby enjoyment as I too often do, here are a few of my fears and the lessons they taught me:
Converting Genesis units to Loksound - resistors for bulbs?
I'm converting my roster to Loksound and adding ditch lights and strobe beacons as needed while I have everything opened up. However, when it comes to my Athearn Genesis units that already have factory ditch lights, I'm having a harder time convincing myself to swap the bulbs for LEDs, as I've never had a problem with the bulbs, and I was thinking it'd be so easy to just swap boards and go. BUT...I forgot about the possible need for resistors.
Ditch light LED resistance in Loksound Select Directs?
I'm installing my first-ever LEDs, and my first-ever ditch lights (surface-mount 0402s), using Big Al Mayo's Monster LEDs. These first 5 installs are using Loksound Select 4 Aux decoders, but I hope to use the built-in resistance on Loksound Select Direct decoders in the rest of the fleet, so I'd like them all to be similar in brightness.
Athearn Genesis GP39-2
I picked up my three Genesis GP39-2 locomotives decorated for the Portland & Western last Friday - and promptly hauled them on a weekend vacation to Leavenworth, WA for a get together with some people I'd served with in Southern Germany in the early 90s.
Tonight, I got to take some photos.... sorry if the exposure is a little sketchy in some, I'm still working out this whole flash thing, after having decided to try that instead of continuous lighting.
A "critical listen"... sound and model trains at a show
This past weekend, I attended a train show. It's that time of year again, and this was one of the early ones in our area.
It's been some time since I've had the opportunity to really get into a show and see everything I wanted to. This time, there were fewer quality vendors than in the past, so I determined to spend some time really examining the layouts.
