The first locomotive for the Willamette Western RR

Okay, so I got my new decals from Bill B. a few days ago, and I've been slowly working on the first locomotive to wear the new name.

It's an Atlas Trainman GP39-2, and it was selected because, well... it was closest at hand. It was the unit that I just put the LokSound Select Direct into. It (#2309, "Philomath") and it's brother #2307 "Independence" are also much less detailed (less to break) than their Athearn Genesis brethren... and thus less nerve wracking to work on.

IAIS's West End - Tips for operating with Loksound Full Throttle

I recently finished converting my 35-unit locomotive roster from Tsunamis to Loksounds, and I've been so excited about the move, and about Loksound's Full Throttle feature, that I thought I'd share a video to demonstrate. Tom Klimoski asked me to shoot something showing the operation of the throttle in relation to locomotive performance in order to give a better idea of how Full Throttle's "Drive Hold" feature works, so this is my attempt at doing so.

Allagash paint color

Virginian & Appalachian Railroad Paint Schemes

Hello everyone

Awhile back I shared paint schemes for my freelanced Virginian & Appalachian (V&A) railroad. However, I didn't feel satisfied with those paint schemes so I recently went back and changed them. These represent the paint schemes from as-delivered until present day (early 70s)

close coupling

I have two Proto 1000 f units. How do I close couple them to more protypical?

Athearn Genesis GP38-2 issue - problem with user, not model

I have six nearly identical Athearn Genesis GP38-2s, all recently converted to Loksound.  The first five run perfectly - very smooth and quiet - but the sixth just went into service for the first time and acts like a completely different beast.  With the exact same sound file and settings as the others, this one is very jerky, and its top speed is only about 10-15 smph vs. 50-60 for the others, leading me to believe that this is more than a need for breaking in.

Scale Trains new locomotive--Tier 4 GEVO

Scale Trains just announced on Facebook that their new locomotive will be a GE Tier 4 GEVO. There will be several versions (I think 11?) with all the prototype details. The Facebook stream was choppy so I do not have much other information such a when it would be available. These Tier 4 locomotives are longer than the existing top of the line locomotives because of all the exhaust treatment necessary to get Tier 4 rating. So this would have to be all new tooling.

Wishram, Oregon & Western

Well, I figured I should post some pics of my Wishram lokeys and the paint schemes developed.  Reckon I am sorta like the "Rock", always room for something a bit different paint wise.blush

First off is a heavily detailed, kitbashed GP60 from an Athearn GP50.  Tis a bit modern for me, but I just could not resist:
