CN Oak Point Subdivision

Ok, so I have a question about Mile 4.1 - 6.8 of the CN Oak Point Subdivision in Winnipeg. Is it used, and if so, what for? This section of track is one of two sections remaining of the Oak Point Sub.

To fit diamond stacks or not fit diamond stacks, that is the question...

Hi everyone,

I have a bachmann spectrum 4-6-0 and 4-4-0 on my HO thoroughfare gap railroad which is set around 1900. I am thinking of fitting some diamond stacks to these locos as I do like the look of the balloon and diamond stacked locos.

My reasoning is that my railroad passes through a dense redwood forest and logging area and the diamonds would be used to arrest any sparks, even though these are coal fired locos I understand that some coal fired locos were and still are (in the case of the shays at cass) fitted with spark arresting stacks.

New member

Just a short entry to introduce myself. I have a N scale small model railroad. I like modern present day rolling stock, loco sand scenery. I am limited to a 4 x 8 layout due to lack of room. But, I believe I have worked a lot of operation possibilities into it and enjoy running it. For the most part it is DDC, but I have one part that is a DC only on which I run Kato trams on a auto reverser. I am interested in adding more electronics in the form of signals etc. also interested in modern present day building. Not a lot of which is available commercially.

Condo/Loft Layout: Progress/inaugural run

My continuing blog about building an 'affordable' small switching layout in the living room/dining room/kitchen, ie little real estate for a Model Railroad. ;)

Benchwork is sorted with foam core and cork roadbed, Fascia and everything painted to match and now some of the track work laid. I haven't purchased my DCC system yet, looking at the NCE PowerPro and my first DCC locomotive, the expense being directed to trackwork, mainly turnouts. But I had my first DC run. Here's a few pictures... not the best quality, but pictorial progress in action. :)

Southside Industrial District Acquires Right-of-Way

Negotiations have been completed with the Superintendent of Facilities to acquire new real estate for the Southside Industrial District.

The District took possession of the new space September 1, 2014.

We converted our 2-car garage into a studio and trains get half! Yeah wife! Final footprint is yet to be determined, but somewhere in the neighborhood of 10' x 10'. Current module pictured is 28" x 88".

Sunset & North Eastern - Trains run all over - at last

I have now finished laying the track to the plan. The schematic looks like this:

I have a short video showing the layout in situ.

Shipbuilding Industry for a Layout

I have found some incredible photos of a shipbuilding industry that relied heavily on the Canadian Pacific Railway for its operations.  The advantage to us layout builders is this shipbuilding industry could fit on almost any size layout.

Kitbashing a boxcab

I’m following an article that describes using a Roundhouse Boxcab shell on the chassis of a Bachmann 44 tonner.  I won’t repeat what I’ve done that matches the article, but will make a few notes as I go.

Taking the shell off the power unit was easy—just unscrew 2 screws
