Great West Models
I know that they are out of business.
Does anyone know of a source of their products that may still be around.
Thanks
We Now Have Track!!! (School Club Beginnings)
After a short wait I have great news. Over the weekend I received the first donations for our school layout. They are an extremely generous amount of products from Augusta Track creator of a modular track system (website link: http://www.augustatrack.com/)

Fall Down Go Boom
So last night, I was doing a decoder install for BCRY #1001 (TCS CN-GP into a Lifelike Proto GP18). After getting everything into place, it was time to test. I went down to the basement to get some Unitrack to hook up to my laptop. When I opened the door to the pantry cabinet where I keep most of my train stuff, one of the shelves inexplicable collapsed, sending my modest collection of nine hoppers, two centerbeams, two tank cars and a GP38 plummeting 640 N-scale feet to the concrete below...
Transfer Terminal Kitbash: Fiber Optics
In comments on my last post, someone asked about the routing of the optical fiber. I think "routing" is too dignified a word for what I did, but here's a closeup:
Pokey Progress: Upper Deck
Summer has come and unfortunately work on my layout has slowed down considerably. I'll be posting here every once and a while though, just to keep you up to date on any construction progress that does get done on my upper deck.

Middle school model RR: structures
There is so much to do on a model railroad! While most of my students are absorbed by the experience of operating, I have more students than available operating positions at any given time, so it's a good idea to keep other activities on tap that make a contribution to the fun and provide an educational benefit.
Building scale structures is one of those things.
Change of heart with the Pine Valley Station Building
If you go back a couple of posts, you will find that I had a story regarding the station building at Sunset. I was trying to build a legend to cover the fact that the building was a little too small for its supposed location at the main station for the railroad. I had a lot of problems with the roof of the structure, mostly because I used a water based glue to fix the shingles rather than the recommended double sided tape.
The great battle between Leverettrailfan and the B&M Dietz Vesta
Okay, you guys and gals are probably thinking "oooooh, I wonder what this is! It sounds like a movie trailer, and a bit exaggerated, but I'll look anyway because the title sounds catchy.". Well, basicly, I ordered a B&M Dietz vesta, it came today, I found the wick was the wrong size and had been sloppily trimmed, the wick tube was loose, and the fuel tank/burner assembly was not coming out. I managed to get it out using a hammer, and a skrew driver (the lantern is fine, it wasn't as nasty as it sounds, and I did try using maximum strength first).
Cleaning up the power wiring -- Phase 1 (east zone) Complete
Well, this afternoon I celebrated being able to run a sound loco from one end to the other with no hickups or hangups -- save for the occasional spot of dirty track. All the zone lights triggered as they should have. And the hand laid curved turnouts were traversed without a hitch. Granted, it was my Rapido GMD-1... heavy enough to be well behaved.
