Big Horn Sub Design/Build

With my layout build well underway, there should be adequate material to make a periodic blog post about progress on the Big Horn Sub. This post is intended to provide some background on my modeling experiences and what led me to the Big Horn build.

RoundTable Number 3: the Future of the NMRA

Round Table Number 3 -  The third in our series of discussions about the future of the NMRA. Will it survive without embracing the new digital world, can it survive under the current fee structure, what about the future of the NMRA magazine? These questions and more are covered in a lively discussion with some ModelersLife regulars along with Peter Borcherds view from the British Region

Agree or disagree, either way. Enjoy !!

IAIS's West End - Tips for operating with Loksound Full Throttle

I recently finished converting my 35-unit locomotive roster from Tsunamis to Loksounds, and I've been so excited about the move, and about Loksound's Full Throttle feature, that I thought I'd share a video to demonstrate. Tom Klimoski asked me to shoot something showing the operation of the throttle in relation to locomotive performance in order to give a better idea of how Full Throttle's "Drive Hold" feature works, so this is my attempt at doing so.

CV / CP interchange in Richford, VT

Does anyone have a track diagram or photos of the interchange point between the Central Vermont and Canadian Pacific in Richfield, VT?  I'm thinking it might, together either the Webster feed mill, make a neat LDE.  Thanks!

Modeling Centralia, IL 1955 in HO

I got back into model railroading after a 35 year break about 8 years ago when I retired the first time.  I was well into the dream, design and buy stuff phase when I let them talk me into going back to work for a few years and for three years I basically just dreamed about a layout and bought things.  I built some models.

HO Scale C&EI Cement Hopper

C&EI Cement Hopper

To All: This C&EI Cement hopper is on a down grade train on the layout. I weathered the car using oil based paint on the sills and Weathering Solutions Decals for the cement streaks. Photo by Elvin Howland. Yours, Elvin Howland/E. St. Louis Rail Group Layout.

TT Scale "TOMA"

I ready to start a TT scale TOMA module. I have 6 track plans firmly decided upon for building. I'll present the first one now. The track plan came for the December 1963 Model Railroader called Western Logging Co. I've made some 3D drawing with major dimensions of the module.

This is the track plan for the first module.

Decal Work

Just wanted to share some of the decal work that I have been doing over the last month or so.  I have a pair of Kato RDC-2 units that needed some ID markings. While digging thru my box of decals, I found some “Turtle Creek Central” decals that were purchased several years ago so they were put to use on these units. The following video shows the RDCs & some other items.

Working on the Railroad....Again!!! Further progress on the 12 spot

Well, it's been a while since I've posted an update on the goings on at the MSR&N, so here goes; I've been devoting much of my modeling time on various projects while working on the studio/train room. I've worked on a lot of rolling stock and other art projects in the studio but mostly I've been finishing the Mogul project.
