This is the first post in my M David Merrill blog about the reconstruction of the Ascape Tennsion & Sulphur Gulch Railroad.  This blog covers the period from 2008 to the present during which the railroad has reached a near completion stage as will be documented in this blog.

SMA27 DCC Controlled Animated Passenger Coach

Model animation—bringing models to life—adds enormously to the interest and enjoyment of any layout or individual model! This time we’ll focus on a mobile animation that is easy to build incorporating a Digitrax TF4 function decoder, an Arduino Pro Mini, and a small DC gear motor. This is a relatively straightforward animation, which draws much interest.

I'm back and I will update ASAP

I'm working on the "West DG" section of the M&U's shared yard with the Erie RR. I really enjoyed re-reading all of the wonderful supportive comments you posted all those years ago! I hope my new work meets the standards of my older stuff.

Scratchbuilt rotary dumper in HO (TMI and long)

Once upon a time, long ago and far away, an impulse buy of a E&C Bethgon started me on a slightly unintentional journey to model a coal train.  I model the Burlington Northern in 1995 so it made sense although there wasn't a lot of coal in the area I model, the PNW.  There were PGEX, "the Rose Trains" to PGE's facilty at Boardman, OR.  BN's experimental Trough Train delivered coal to the steam plant at Centralia, WA and various trains unloaded at Robert's Bank, BC, for export.

Swap Meet Treasure, show and tell

Having just got a great deal at a swap meet I was wondering if anyone else has found some amazing deals they just couldn't pass up on.

To start off here is what I got:

-Bachmann N scale train set with track and controller but -engines for $20 I had some engines already so not  a bad deal.

Keeping trains off the floor

Installed a safety device on my swing gate entry to prevent trains rolling off the edge of the layout. A switch activates a Tortiose which raises a pin up through the track.
