Passenger Car Tales - building old kits

I started one kit, an observation car.  I tried to find the prototype and got bogged down in the research. I then decided to start work on another kit.   This time one with a few less windows, a postal car.   I refined my methods.   The roof on the kits is wood.   I realized that I needed to sand the roof much more than I had.

Nolix versus Helix

In this recent discussion board post, I was looking for pictures of Nolix setups as I depart somewhat from my original plan of a ridiculously huge helix in the unfinished area of the basement.

I imagine it was going to look something like this one I picked off the internet:

Lost Instruction Sheet

Anyone have an instruction sheet for the Proto 2000 HO 10,000 Gallon Type 21 Insulated Tank Car? Could you give me a PDF of it? Just not sure where all these tiny parts go. Thanks in advance.

B&O Fairmont Belt Line

Here is a new track plan for everyone to give their opinions about.  This is owes much to Eric Hansmann as he wrote about this line for a Layout design Journal article he wrote on using short prototype segments for layout designs.  The actual FBL is a very old industrial area just off of the B&O line through Fairmont West Virginia.  It went up a steep grade and then serviced a number of industries including glass factories in downtown Fairmont.  It had a remarkable amount of industries in its short 2 mile length.

There Is Always Time For Improvement

Time to upgrade my CSX fantasy scheme P2K E8 ABA set. The improvements will include new speakers from Scale Sound Systems (SSS), a new Econami 21 PNEM decoder, new LEDs, and an incredible new motherboard from fellow forum member, Nick Santo. As number board and ground lights are being added, the wire control facilitated by Nick’s board is important.
