Building a Proto-Freelance 0 scale switching layout: "Vernon, California"
Hi all,
Let me introduce myself; Ronald, born in the Netherlands Europe, 54, married to Wanda with 2 kids (24 and 27) and 1 granddaughter of 7 who lives with us. I'm a modeller as long as I remember, trains where always part of my life. My father started with Fleischmann H0 which later went to me. I expanded with European stuff like Roco and somewhere end of the nineties the American bug really bite me. '98 I bought my first 2 US Atlas H0 locos and from that point on I was hooked to American trains.
Operating a medium sized layout
G'Day,
I consider my HO scale 25 foot X 9 foot layout to be a medium sized layout.
What I consider the largest crew that the Kanunda & Emu Flat railway can handle is the following, two two man road crews, one person Kanunda yard master, one person Hostler (staging yard operator) and one person Controller (dispatcher), seven people. Even then it can become crowded when trains converge.
In the video attached we had a crew of five which results in a relaxed session.
What can be done with a 189.99 USD (MSRP) 3D Printer?
Thought I might share this experiment using a 3D printer with a 100 micron resolution and a print volume of a 4.7 inch cube.
Meanwhile on the Main Level at the CarquinezMRR Feb 2019 Open House
Back to Open House videos. All the Traffic in Sacramento and the Mountains has dispersed, now I jump ahead of the chase trains down on the main level and see what else is going on.
1st day of spring break, some kids running trains at a friends house.
1st day of spring break, some kids running trains at a friends house. Those kids ran 5 trains between them. Other than programming the throttles to select trains they ran from end to end on this massive layout. No help.

Update on the reverse loop with the quarry Scene
Greetings fellow modelers of the greatest hobby on earth. I have been busy with the quarrie scene here are the latest pics. I have plastered the and started shaping the dig site, and adding color.
Scenery work finished for NMRA AP judging.
I completed about 60 square feet of scenery this past fall and winter. The NMRA Achievement program requires 32 square feet in HO scale to qualify for judging. Using my smart phone to document each scene and the creation of certain items helped me write articles for my local NMRA Division and Region. It was finished enough for me to invite the judges over. Here are a few of the scenes and some behind the scenes work.
More will follow as I fired up my blog again after a rough 2018. I'm glad to be back to devoting some spare time to my hobby.
3D Printed Heavyweight Drop deck flatcar; magnetic assembly and custom buckeye trucks
It's been a quite a while since I've actually posted anything, but I wanted to share my most recent HO Scale, 3D printed heavyweight flatcar. This car is a completely custom design, down to the trucks. The only commercial parts used were the wheels and the couplers.
