Southern Pacific's Jefferson Branch

This is the blog for my Southern Pacific's Jefferson Branch of Klamath Subdivision in Northern California. The Klamath Subdivision is proto-lanced line for my dream layout and the Jefferson Branch is a totally freelanced branch for the layout space I was able to get. Debugging and Control using Arduino Serial Monitor

As an embedded firmware developer, we invested significant effort developing mechanisms to debug and exercise our code outside of product requirements. Such tools are analogous to meters and oscilloscopes used by hardware engineers.

The Arduino Interactive Development Environment (IDE) includes a Serial Monitor under the Tools tab. The serial monitor (SM) displays text using Serial.print() but also allows text to be sent to the Arduino. Serial.read() will read text sent from the SM one ASCII character at a time.

IAIS's West End - TTPX flat w/pulpwood rack

Next up on my workbench is a TTPX bulkhead flat I'm just kicking off, the prototype for which was in service hauling walnut logs from eastern Iowa to Midwest Walnut, a small mom & pop sawmill on the IAIS in Council Bluffs, IA.  MW takes in walnut logs and ships out specialty dimensional walnut in containers, often for export, for use in such things as rifle stocks and furniture.

Layout Status Update and A Question

Well everybody, we've got a closing date on the new house, end of September. Start of the new layout is in sight! Finally!!!!!!!! Along with that vane, how do those of you that have large work benches w/multiple work areas organize said benches. I realized on the last layout progress was really slowed down by having to clear off the workbench everytime I wanted to shift between projects to help keep my interest up. It didn't help ethier that in the shuffle I would end losing parts for one project and get them mixed up with parts for another project.
