Sheet cork for roadbed
On my past layout, i was given a roll of sheet cork for free. So I used that cork for my roadbed. I created a couple jigs so I could cut out the appropriate width for roadbed, and in yard/industrial areas I used that cork on top of a plywood base.
Starting to Finish
the shelf layout I started 3 years ago. That's correct, three years of "work" are shown in the first two pictures. Not very proud of that. Most people would have done this in the first couple of days. Now that I'm working from home for the next two weeks, then on forced vacation for the third week, I may get more done, as the commute time is cut back to <30 seconds.
Now I just need to find out how to post the pictures in the Body.

A mere modeling mortal makes Luke Towen's tree
Many are familiar with Luke Towen modeling and fantastic tutorials. If not, his builds are nothing short of amazing. As a mere modeling mortal, I decided to try my hand following his pine tree tutorial at

Below are my results. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with my first attempt. They are between 36 and 48 scale fee tall. I plan to make some more in the coming weeks.
Layout Milestone Reached
A big milestone reached on my N scale layout. All wiring for track (DCC) and turnout control with toggle switches completed. Trains running smoothly, now on to scenery.
Fascia finally up
Finally installed the fascia and extension plate this weekend. Going to put down the asphalt as soon as the top coat and paving tape arrive. Will start working on the kits also this week. Needed a gloss coat to somewhat match the floor. I will fill in the gap with a little scenery.
Last Run Layout Video
After many fits and starts I finally finished editing the video I shot of the previous iteration of the W&N Branch when I lived on 150th St. I filmed it right before the layout was disassembled to move to our new home. The video was shot with a small sports camera attached to a flat car with a rubber band. So the film is a little grainy due to the low resolution of the camera and a little shaky due to the suspension of the flatcar.
That being said, I'm glad I documented it and thought some of you might like to see it.

Building a Ballast Hopper
Bowser has come out with something interesting (okay, they have a lot that is interesting, but this one caught my eye) in the English's Model Railroad line - it's a conversion of their two-bay hopper model, either the open triangle or the closed sided, with some 3D printed parts.
This is new - it isn't even going to be in the news until the April issue.
This is the photo that Bowser has that caught my attention:
