Question: Webmasters TV?

When might the Webmasters TV site be back online?

Moderator note: Extremely general subject lines are not very helpful, we added enough to the subject that folks can determine what the thread topic really is.

The Placerville Branch - Dugan

I've spent several months working and making Dugan modelgenic. It's not finished yet, but it's coming along. Dugan was a station on the Placerville Branch and lasted til the line was abandoned in the 1980's. Its located between Latrobe down the hill and Shingle Springs not too far east. I've made it a TO (train order station) with lower quadrant Tomar built semaphore as well as being the designated maintenance crew point for the branch. Small cabins on the property allow the men some downtime from maintaining branch trackage.

Custom Weathering

I've often considered having someone weather my more expensive models.  I've hummed and hawed about it for years.  There are a few things that stopped me in the past - 1) I should be able to learn it on my own and develop a new skill, 2) it can be quite costly and I'd rather spend my hobby dollars on other things, 3) who do I trust to do it and how long will it take, and 4) what if the job ends up being no better than what I could do and I'd paid for it?

Trenton Subdivision -Grain Elevator and Co-op

One of the "Must Haves" on my layout has been a co-op and grain elevator.  I am fortunate that there is one located near to my home and I have been able to study the track arrangement and operations at the co-op. The blog discusses how I have incorporated the features of the prototype into my layout.

Update on the IC Freight House area

I'm continuing to make progress on the two modules that will model the area around the IC Freight House and the industries around it.  The IC had a large freight house in Centralia, most likely much larger then necessary.  The freight house was 182' 2" by 40' 8" with a wooden freight platform at the south end that was 274 feet long.  The platform was actually two separate platforms. Last week I built the southern portion of the platform using strip styrene:

Episode 70: Dave Barraza - Ever wonder what it’s like to be a great saxophone player, a movie house projectionist and a signal engineer with the Union Switch & Signal Company?

We did too, so after searching high and low we found just the guy living on Long Island in Wading River, New York.

Cheap but effective turnout throws

As I’ve mentioned in a previous blog, I’ll be using brass G-scale switch stands a la Trevor Marshall to throw the 10 turnouts on my layout. The reason I’m doing this is to provide a more realistic experience for me and my operators working a small branch line. The G-scale stands are well constructed and are smooth operating, so it will be fun to throw the points real time in this manner.

S-2 #0604 at New Britain Station

Another great Cochrane photo, this time of an S-2 on one of the road freights at the station. As with other photos, this is a scene I will recreate on the model.

More (at-home) 3D Printing for the Layout (N-Scale)

I learned quite a bit about the capabilities of my less than $300 3D printer while working on the stockyard/feed lot project. So I decided to try designing & printing the passenger waiting room that will sit over the tracks. I was originally going to scratch build it from styrene (not my best talent) but felt that the 3D printer might be the right tool to accomplish this task.  The first picture shows the mockup of the building that was done last year that was used as a guide.  I also reviewed some pictures of the actual KC Union Station (not shown).
