Prototype information

23. Shovels, for loading ore and waste cars.

Only a few shovels at the Copper King Mine, a short history of the early steam shovel at Bingham Canyon Mine, through time always getting bigger and better. Some of the pictures are from the Larry Sax collection found at utahrail.net. and the Utah Historical Society.

Would you see a doodlebug in Chicago pre-war?

I know doolebugs ran on branchlines in the 30s and 40s, but would they have ever run into the middle of Chicago from anywhere, or was that kind of traffic handled by the city commuter lines?

Painting Brass

I am  planning on painting a few brass GN Passenger cars.  Can anyone help me with two different items.

First, preparing the model.  I have airbrushed a number of items in the past with great results,  but they were mostly plastic.  What do i need to do with a "straight out of the box" brass piece to get it ready for painting.

Second, does anyone have the prototype measurements one would use to properly layout the masking for a Great Northern Empire Builder paint scheme?

Thanks in advance.

Joseph

IAIS's 4th Sub - A new beginning

As mentioned in my previous post , the IAIS's West End (Council Bluffs to Atlantic) is on the verge of being dismantled for an upcoming move.  Our offer on the new house has been accepted, and the move is scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend, appropriately enough.

HO scale Brick Veneer?

I'm looking for a suitable wood to mimic this brick veneer. They almost seem about 10" square. I'm hoping someone has a similar laser-etched block that could be painted this way.

? Thanks.

Side Dump Waste Cars

You might have seen these side dump waste cars working tramp work around any line, at Bingham Canyon mine they were part of the main roster, 1961 they had 258 in service. The stripping ratio. was 3 to 1 moving waste rock to get to the ore. Some of the pictures are from the Larry Sax collection found at utahrail.net.

TMTV "Establishing a realistic roster" with Bob Fallowfield

Just finished watching this great video(finally)!

Picked up some good advice and can't wait for parts 2 & 3 to come out. Very timely for me as I want to model the mid 80's just before CSX came to life. Bob mentioned his admiration for the CP cylindrical hoppers.
