Modeling general discussion

I REALLY am starting to consider myself NOT a Model Railroader

Why do I say that?  Because the more and more I work on this $#%# Layout the more I hate it.  Unfortunately, to GET to the part that I enjoy, simulating railroad prototype operations WITH actual 3D physical models, I have to be a Model Railroader!  I haven't even reached the point of getting the Mainline operational and often times I feel like quitting!!

PECO Loco Lift

I received the below email today from the Yahoo Group Model Railroads of Southern California.  I find this tool very interesting!  Rather than type out an entire new message on this I copied Bob's message to post here.  I recently sold a Southern Pacific steamer that was so detailed that handling it was something of chore without damaging it.  I think we discussed the super detailed engines that we don't want to break detail parts off.  Well, here is a solution.  Watch the videos to see it in action.

Step into the world of 3D printing and model trains

Like everyone I get regular emails from all sorts of people selling things. Most of it I either ignore or hit the SPAM button. But today I got an Ad Email from a company called "Jameco". Many of you may recognize the company, they sell electronic parts and workbench items at retail prices. I occasionally buy something from them.

My operating HO scale TV on my Richlawn RR layout

Yesterday I added a pretty cool feature to my Richlawn RR layout - a "working" TV!  I got the idea from seeing the radio repair shop details on this site and the super detail of the interior.  I already had a ready made structure with a large front display window so all I need to do was add the TV, and this is how I did it:

End of Track

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what a prototype railroad would use to indicate the "end of the line".  Say like in a staging area or such. Something that keeps the rolling stock or locos from running off the track.  Around here I can't think of an area to go look at.  I am also trying to find it for the 1920-40 era.

Thanks in advance.

Hand-Laying Track

Can anyone share a good reference book, website, group, etc covering the subject of hand laying track?  After nearly three decades in the hobby I've finally worked up the courage to give it a shot.  I love the look and realism that people all over the world are achieving by hand laying.  Any advice would be welcomed.  I'm talking just track at this time (straight runs and curves).  Switches for me are further down the road.  Thanks.

My special effects video on the Richlawn Railroad

I had this idea where I could create a pretty neat effect over the mountain area of my Richlawn Railroad V2.  The mountain area is about 6 feet wide by 3 ft high by 2 feet deep.  I wanted the ability to have: 1.) Moving  clouds over the mountains (and maybe airplanes flying by) during the day; 2.) A storm scene complete with thunder clouds, lightening, and thunder, and 3.) A night scene with twinkling stars, a moon, and shooting stars.

Tam Valley Shuttle Info - for Rich S and others

In my other post about using the Tam Valley Shuttle on my Richlawn RR Rich S had asked: "Does the doodlebug stop inside the gapped area?" and I told him I would take some pictures to show the results.  To see the original thread, go here:  http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/20899

Temporary spray adhesive for pink foam?

Is there a spray adhesive that will not attack pink foam I can use to temporarily hold down some printouts with?

I've searched a few forums and Google and have come up with some permanent adhesives but nothing temporary/repositionable.

Thanks.

Archer decals, other than rivets.

For those of you that have seen mention of Archer's Rivet decals have you explored their site?  I thought I would point out this site as a resource for new modelers.  It would be worth it to surf their site.  There is a lot more than rivets and weld decals on their site.
