Modeling general discussion

What is the name of that supersmall wire that is used to hook lights up with?

Abd where do you get it?

I am going to be building some signals for my layout, and I know I saw some wire that is used for really small electrical pieces. Anyone know what it is called and where to get it?

Thanks

Painting monofilament fishing line--can it be done ?

I'm thinking that monofilament fishing line might work well in a few places I need cable--like the cable on a wrecking crane.  Is it paintable?  And if so, what paint works?

Frank Titman's Passing

I just heard the sad news that Frank Titman has passed away. He was well known, not only by his fellow S scalers, but within the entire model railroading hobby. He was instrumental in preserving S scale during the rough times we had in the 60's and 70's when the scale came close to perishing.

Farewell inglenook

Now that my inglenook is functional, Im looking for some scenery ideas such as grass, weeds, etc. My base scenery or as I like to call it my blank canvas is ready.

As much as I like weeds on sidings, I'm thinking of a dirt and mud look.

Weekly Photo Fun - January 16th to January 22nd

Let's post some photos.

As always, we get as much out of your in-process photos as we do the highly polished "all done" shots!

Hot Air Balloon Ride

This is my first attempt at this so I hope it works. I am a member of a club in a retirement community that is only a little over a year old. We have received a couple of donated HO layouts we are in the process of integrating together to make something for the other residents to enjoy.

Telephones

Can a regular set of telephones be used to dispatch. Have tried both a 9 and 7 volts to power them but that did not work. Just want to use them to talk to each other. Any suggestions please.

Experience with Memory Trains

Has anyone used Memory Trains?  http://www.memorytrains.com/default.asp Looks like an interesting source of older stuff (although the website is http and not https for the credit card info).

Setting up a new workshop. Thoughts?

Following a bit of give and take, my wife agreed to relinquish our seldom used guest bedroom.  This will give me a 12'x13' space to finally set up a useable organized workshop for my modeling--an area separate from the layout room. But how to organize it?  I've already reviewed Jack Burgess's "My Workshop" article (MRH Feb 2013) and watched Ken Patterson's videos about his work area to borrow some of their ideas. I'm also interested in your input, too.

My $40 paint booth, but I am not using acrylics anymore...

Well my $40 paint booth works surprisingly well, but I do have new concerns.  When I was painting with acrylics I had no real worries.  I still used a mask when I painted.  But now that I have moved in to using paints that are qa bit "fumy," as I was painting last night. I got to think about the possibility of "BOOM."  The blower I am using is bathroom ceiling fan.  In so far as I know it is brush-less, but it still was worrying me last night.
