JMRI setup for Mac

I'm looking for advice on setting up JMRI Decoder/Panel Pro with a current (2012) MacBook Pro. I've downloaded the Decoder Pro successfully and I've bought the PR3 Xtra to use as an interface between JMRI and Mac.

My question is about what drivers to use. The instructions on JMRI for Mac setup get into a little more "computer-ease" language than I am familiar with.

Do I order an external driver? Is there one I download from the web?

Thanks,

Matt

Where to get 1/87 vehicles ?

What would you recommend as a good place (store / On-line) to get 1/87 (HO scale) vehicles?

Era: anything between 1970-1995. European model welcome (VW, Volvo, Peugot, Renault, Citroen, Opel, BMW, Fiat, Audi etc.) Also other imports such has Toyota, Datsun, Honda,  Isuzu etc.

I am especially interested in Canadian stores and of course decent price

Thx

Sorting and Storing your prototype photos; Publishing your own book

So, if you are like me, you have tons of digital photos of the prototype. But, at the same time, you prefer the physical photos, especially when modeling.

Printing out individual photos is either a pain, or expensive. Then they get lost. Or you have to do an old fashioned photo album that ends up a mess. Or, you didn't print one photo you are after.

So, I came up with the perfect solution. Self publishing with Lulu.

Recasting a still in production model is Theft but do we tolerate it in Model Railroading? If so Why?

I have seen a few low life model railroaders now recast others work.   This is just out right theft of peoples works and then post that they do recast like it is some new found art form.  I know a few people that do 3D design and printing or casting of models that they build and design for Cars, Trucks, Hopper Loads etc. etc.. Then some Dirt ball low life thief comes out and recast that 3D model in resin and use the molds to make Train Cars, Autos and locomotive parts of the original 3D product or casting.

Soooo tired of buying ink ....

Just spent another $13 for photo black ink for my HP C6380 scanner/printer.  It seems like the stuff just evaporates!!  I barely use it - except when I get a wild hair and decide to try the "Print-N-Cut" feature on my Cricut and it sees like the 'low ink alert' is always lit.  And I have begun getting 'general printer errors' ever since the big windstorm and took out my computer and some other electronics.

End of the Georgetown Branch

Sad to see it go but all good thing must come to an end.  I am not sure what direction I will go from here, time will tell, and I will be back to share the story.

Unusual trackwork

This pic was posted on the Yahoo PRR Fax group and I never seen trackwork like it and thought it was interesting enough to post here.  It has 5 rails with the 5th rail on the outside of the inner rail for the blind drivers to sit on. This photo is from www.bellwoodantis.net and it says "Horseshoe Curve" but its not the famous one on the main line.  I might model it on one of my tight curves on the layout...

Model Railroading on the Road??

I took a new job this past summer and it has me on the road at least one week a month. With my time on the road it makes it so that time at home will have little time for model railroading. I have decided that instead of wasting time watching TV or loafing around online I could take the opportunity to get some modeling done.

Life of a rail man and dieselization (NFB)

So I've posted other National Film Board (NFB) goodies here and this is another one in a series of shorter documentaries on our Canadian railroads in the 50's.  Canada was slower to dieselization than the States, but this film is a good source as to why dieselization occurred.  This film is also good for the newbie to understand typical train orders and scheduling.  I know on one local layout here in greater Vancouver, the read back spelling out engines, locations and directions is normal during its ops session.
