Free-Mo Club Launch

Good Morning. I wanted to post an update - my friend and I have founded a Free-Mo club here in the Central Valley of Nevada. You may recall that I posted several weeks ago seeking those that may be interested in joining me in this endeavor. Well, the power of this site came through and helped join a few of us together in our region. While we do not have a central club space, we are moving forward with our first modules. Surprisingly, the greater Las Vegas area does not have an active HO scale club of any kind.

Understanding Resistance Solder Station rating WAS Looking for 110V/3A Input/ 8VAC Output Transformer

I have a copy of an article in the October 1995 issues of Mainline Modeler on how to build a Resistance Solder Station, but it requires at minimum a 110V/3A Input/ 8VAC Transformer and I have a heck of a time trying to find a manufacturer, let alone a vendor that sells them.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Layout sound

I am in the process of designing and building a modular layout loosely based on West Side Lumber that ran in Tuolumne County in California.

I will have a sawmill and I am interested in having sounds of lumber being cut. Other scenes like a hobo camp and banjos. Other areas will have woodsman cutting down trees and a spar tree loading skels.

I am interested in your experience on which sound modules/methods you have used to add a variety of background sound to a layout.

Vaping for HO Steam Locos. . .

Been busy for a while and haven't posted in a long time. . .

I had an epiphany.  While out and about, I see these 20 something "hipsters" vaping.  There's huge amounts of vapor coming out of their mouths.  I thought that would be a great technology for model steam locos to simulate real steam!  The smoke oils used now produce a very weak effect.  Can you imagine plumes of "steam" coming from your HO Big Boy. . . Way Cool!

"Shapeway City"

I came across this item in an industry e-newsletter. Is a new modeling scale being born? A 40' boxcar would be just under 1/2" long at 1:1000 scale. What decoder would fit in that locomotive? devil
