Paper Models

I was wondering if anybody knew of any websites that had free cardstock structures and other models I like the look of them and it would be greatly appreciated

How - To remove ballast to reuse turnouts?

After dismantling my old layout I saved several layout sections containing turnouts I'd like to reuse. Unfortunately they are ballasted with  white glue. Any suggestions on how to remove the old ballast ?

Thanks

John

Weathering roof

I haven't weathered a model in a while and never had a car with a white roof. Looking for ideas. The car will represent one that is three years old that traveled from the southern US to the east coast of Canada occasionally.

Perhaps a wash on the roof followed by some chalk brushed on?

A quick test of LED strip lights : 5630s versus 2835s

I plan to use LED strip lights to light the lower shelves of the 3 level (mushroom) layout that I will be starting construction on soon.  I bought some "sample" 5 meter LED light strips off E-Bay and did some tests to see which style of LED lights I preferred.  I strung both the 5630 and 2835 strips (both light strips had 300 total LEDs) adjacent to each other under our kitchen cabinets and I used the android app Light Meter v2.2 to measure the light they produced 19" directly below on the counter.

Gluing styrene - because not everybody knows

I don't know why, but I just assumed that everybody knew how to solvent weld plastics like styrene.  I guess it's something I've known for so long that I forgot I had to learn it somewhere.  So, in the spirit of teaching and sharing what I've learned, I'l pass on this tip and a little explanation of why it works.  Hopefully you'll never again feel the need to reach for ACC or Super Glue when you want to bond two pieces of styrene.

Cup holder ideas?

I'm contemplating building my own car card/throttle holding system not unlike MicroMark's and was looking for some way to extend it to also include a space for something like a soda bottle (something that won't be as likely to spill...) Just thought I'd get some ideas as to what the rest of you are using for holding your favorite beverages as you operate your respective pikes?  Or, are beverages allowed at all?  I'm looking for something that can be used in convenient locatio

Very nice HOn3 layout

Saw this on an auction site. The modeling is just as stunning as the asking price. Purportedly the builder did this in about 825 hours of work over 4-1/2 months.

Switch stands

I am looking for great looking, non functional switch stands for my H0n3-layout. My era is the 1940's. Any ideas which I should go for?

Facebook-

I rarely do any Facebook stuff, but wondering who here mentions their model railroading on their Facebook page?

I don't/haven't, and just today I realized none of my close friends actually know what I do outside of work (and guitar-playing and -building and -refinishing), and my close friends go back to, really, the Carter years.  Most are from Jr High and High School in the Eighties (I graduated in a class of 63 in 1986- we're all pretty tight though separated by distance and face-to-face, but they're all family to me).

Rail fanning on the Inland Pacific Railroad.

Pull up a comfy chair and have a snack and beverage handy. I hope you enjoy, we did.
