Herald King Decals

Has anyone purchased decals from Herald King Decals lately?

Are they still in business?

I sent an email to them at heraldkingdecals@q.com which is what they list on their website. The email came back as undeliverable.

I can't try calling during their business hours.

Any help appreciated.

Andy Sperandeo, RIP

Just read this off the Yahoo Proto-Layouts Group. Duane Goodman

Guys,

A friend sent me a note he got from Bill Kirchmeyer.

My friend Andy Sperandeo passed away last night. Andy's close friend Gordy
called me to let me know.
I will supply arrangements when they are available.

My sympathies to his friends and family

What's On Your Workbench? - October 2015

OK time for "What's on your Workbench". Now that cooler weather is almost here I'm sure there will be more projects on the workbench.

Let's see what you have on the bench for the coming cold season ahead.

Scale track

I have at least two industries that on my prototype use scales. I plan to model the weighing of cars at these industries. Anybody have any experience modeling a scale track? Any good pictures of a scale track? It is really difficult to search "scale track", you get lots of irrelevant hits as you can imagine. The scales I am interested in were at a grain elevator and a plastic pellet manufacturer in the mid-70s. Would the locomotive have been allowed to pass over these scales? Did each car likely have to be placed on the scale individually during that time?

MARPM Meet

The Mid Atlantic RPM gathering concluded yesterday. A great event by Norman and his gang of purple shirted volunteers. My first, but won't be my last.

Here are a few shots of models on display. The only thing more impressive were the clinics.

One for the Espee fans

Spotted this SP relic last week sitting on UP's industrial line alongside East Marginal Way in Seattle. Have never seen it before outside (or inside, for that matter) UP's Argo Yard.

Drafting is not a dying art

Well, I experimented with CAD and could not justify the high learning curve when all I needed were some lines on paper. I took several drafting classes in high school and at one time fancied that being my career. I was advised against this as the very latest thing was computer aided drafting. I almost took a course in that at my local community college but instead steered my career to the machines that the software ran on.

Operating on a layout with signals manually controlled

QUESTION: Has anyone operated on a layout that has signals controlled manually by a dispatcher versus block occupancy or a computer driven software program? Would like to hear some feedback on how the session went. I've added signals to control both interlocking areas on my layout and will have some of the guys over to 'test' running trains. This will be a learning experience for the operators as well as myself.

Thanks to all who reply

Neal
