Abandoned spurs

All

I seem to remember reading somewhere that sometimes railroads will abandon a spur track but leave the track in place. They just remove the switch. I want to model that on my new layout so I need some pictures. Anyone have any idea where I might be able to locate such photos?

Thanks and Happy New Year to one and all.

Letters for making large signs

I found something interesting at Michael's (craft store) recently. It's a box of fancy brads, each one with a letter of the alphabet. Upper and lower case are both included. I think these could be useful for making large signs on buildings, even in the smaller scales. You'd have to cut off the tabs on the back of the letters.

Good use of model video?

Check out this video from Chris Gilbert showing switching at his Highland City yard.

He sped it up for some reason, but I really like this approach because I find many layout videos that show switching are too slow and thus monotonous. This approach lets me get a quick feel for the yard switching without putting me to sleep.

What do others think?

freight question

I am modeling a line on my freelance layout Ontario Eastern.  It runs on the old CP line the Prescot Sub.  I am wondering what traffic is generally seen perhaps along this line for those south of the Ottawa area, whom might be able to help me determine, what freight is ran

Prognosis Negative!

I received my DigiTrax Zephyr back from DigiTrax today.

Prognosis Negative. The paperwork included with the unit indicated that it had run it's last train! "Unit is unrepairable".
