Modeling general discussion

layout options

I have a small switching shelf layout in a room that I have not come very far on and I am thinking about starting over because I rarely mess with it and realized that I don't have much interest in operations and want to build something with a continuous run that I would get more enjoyment out of. Could someone suggest small layouts that would be a good starting point for a person that mainly likes watching trains run with a little operation on the side as well.

Boosting a Negative Ion Generator

HI Guys:

I have the negative Ion Generator from a Harbor Freight fly swatter-- I want to make a static grass applicator from it, but I suspect it may be a little low voltage, is there a way to add another or something to boost its output? -- any suggestions?

Thanks

TIM

part needed for proto 2000 sd7/9

Hey all.  Scored a great deal on 2 proto 2000 sd7/9's.  Problem is when they  were shipped one of the coupler covers exploded into 4 pieces.  I was wondering if anyone had a spare one they could do without.  I have looked through my stash and evil bay and come up empty handed.

N Scale 3D Printable Kits

I don't have a very big layout so as a outlet I've been designing N Scale 3D printable items you put together.  They are designed to be printed on a PLA printer with 0.4 nozzle.  I concentrated on making the parts functional and practical as ultra fine detail just isn't possible with this type of printer.

Light Rail

I’m interested in modelling modern Light Rail or fairly modern at least in HO scale.

There isn’t much around as far as I can see.  I keep waiting to see any further information on that Bachmann Siemens S70 but nothing for quite awhile now unless I missed anything.

Does anyone on here model Light Rail transit?  Is there anything commercially available in HO scale?

Thanks,

Mike

Superelevation using masking tape

Greetings all,

I’ve been involved in discussions regarding superelevation here before and the pros and the cons.

I was trying styrene risers but if I so much as sneeze they fly into nowhere and otherwise the just move too much anyway.  I didn’t want to glue them in case I need to make adjustments.

Im now trying automotive detailing masking tape, 1/4 inch so that it’s easy to put on curves. I have a lot of it.

For anyone who has used tape for this a few questions:

UV cured epoxy, a little story.....

Found out something interesting today.  A while ago I wanted to try UV activated epoxy.  I’ve got some in my mouth and it seems to want to stay there so I figured it might be handy.  I ordered the cheapest thing I could find on eBay coming from China and waited for it to arrive.  When it did I tried dripping some on a part and then shining the light from the associated UV flashlight that came with the liquid epoxy.  The epoxy took its time getting a skin on and I finished it off on the back porch railing.
