Lighting temperature vs. paint color

I've bought paint to use as a base coat on the layout trying to get something like an earthy sand color.  The first batch looked a tan to me in the store but got home and it looked a greenish tan, but more green than anything.  I got another can of paint which looked like it should be more buff or yellowish tan or so it looked in the store, started painting over the plaster and it looked better but still a greenish cast.

Caboose stack

I had so much luck when I asked about manhole covers,I'm going back to the well...of knowledge!

I am looking for a good detail part,HO scale, for a caboose smoke stack like the one in the picture of this EL caboose. After looking in the bible, the Walthers catalog, all I found that was somewhat acceptable was one made by Utah Pacific. Are there any others out there that might better fit my need? Thanks for any help and advice.

Electrical Connectors

The other day I went searching for Cinch-Jones and Anderson Powerpole connectors. Google being the all seer of everything noticed and sent me an ad for another product I've never seen. Looks like they could do a similar job to a suitcase connector but are very inexpensive. Any thoughts?

Weekly Photo Fun - August 18th to August 25th, 2016

Awesome work everyone last week!  Time to start this week's photo thread!

As always, we get as much out of your in-process photos as we do the highly polished "all done" shots!

HO scale big rigs, 18 wheelers, semi's

I've been searching using those terms but not really getting useable results. My layout will need quite a few "big rigs" to make the scenes realistic. I've seen a few at the LHS that will work with some modifications but I'm wondering who makes really good models of these road bruisers. Looking for "modern" (1970s and newer) trucks and trailers. US prototype.  What's the good stuff out there?

Track Cleaning Suggestions

Due to budget constraints, I've had to use older brass track and turnouts for about 20% of my layout. I would like to know what others in this same situation use, to effectively keep the brass track clean. I've read posts about track cleaning cars, bright-boy sticks, graphite sticks, the No Ox product, etc., and I'm also going to look over the layout to see where I can "move" some of the brass track into spurs or ends of yards, etc.

Just looking for some sage advice from this knowledgeable body of modelers!

Thanks,

Grampy

Can you ever have enough (or too much) rolling stock / locos?

I think that I already know the answer to this, but when Kadee announced the release of a new L&N boxcar I had to order it.  When dealing with fallen flag railroads you never know when / if products will be available.  It just so happens that I model the 1960's so this car built in 1952 will fit right in!  Once I've leaned how to weather rolling stock (I purchased the TMTV weathering videos) and feel comfortable trying my more expensive rolling stock I'll add some weathering.
