Modeling general discussion

Athearn Screw Up? Nit Pickers and Rivet Counters? This is why models cost too much.

Screw Up, Nit Pickers, Rivet Counters?  Is this why models cost too much?

I have seen this in other hobbys too.
Me being a professional museum model builder for military vehicles and aircraft.
ABC Model Co. would change models every know and then in a real cheap way. Just changing or drop
more decals into the a box. Now that F-104 can be made into a German or Canadian F-104.
But as soon as that happens rivet counters flip out. The German F-104 had this the Canada F-104
looked like that etc. etc. it is the same model just with new decals. Should people be happy

An idea for the animation wizards--people that come and go

I love having people in my trains; it adds something to it all.  But, a caboose sitting on the caboose track shouldn't have someone diligently sitting in the copula, watching the track (err...buffer stop) ahead.  Has anyone considered adding a servo that allows someone to pop out of sight, yet be there when needed.  Perhaps a caboose crew member simply is lowered out of view, then raised back up.  If you wanted to get fancy, he could also pivot to face the direction the train is going.  I don't think this would be hard for someone who knows their way around

Cutting Plano stainless grills

I have a sheet of Plano stainless steel grill that I need to cut. What is the best tool for this? Plano didn't have anything on their site. An X-Acto knife? Scissors?

I'm making long strips. Thanks.

walthers turntable question

My question is about power to the walthers 90' turntable. Im trying to figure out how I would wire this into the layout and I want to know if I would need a booster of some sort to power it or can I run it off of the track power. I don't currently have a booster and I run dcc through a nce power cab system.

HTTP 404 error message

I have tried 3 times this morning to read an article from the new mag, Aug issue and keep getting the above error message. Since it doesn't seem like anyone else has the issue, maybe someone can tell me what could be blocking my access.

Some might find this interesting. Most know of John Allen, Jim Findley is another favorite of mine from the pages of Model Railroader back when.
