Covered HO scale boats

Okay guys put on your thinking caps. One of my industries is going to be a boat builder and as such will ocasionally ship boats out by rail. What I need is an easy way to make a covered load that resembles a boat. I don't need a model of a boat, just an easy way to make something, that when covered with a plastic grocery bag, will look like a boat.

Hobby Black Metal Blackener - Any Tips?

I need to blacken some perimeter handrails that came with five Caboose Industries tank car kits. Out of the box the handrails are a shiny brass-ey metal color. They might be brass but I'm not sure. I'd prefer to not paint them as any future bumping of the handrails may result in peeling paint flaking off. I'd like to blacken them chemically if possible.

Electrical help needed

I have a problem I've been struggling with for the past year. I model a 1940s coal hauler in West Virginia and we load "coal" (black beauty) from 2 online tipples.

I want to build a device to unload the loaded hopers. I have 2 pillow blocks with a 3/4" dowel rod running between the pillow blocks. To the dowel I have attached a 1X4 that has a piece of track on it. The plan is to push 5 loaded hoppers inside a building, rotate the track, empty the hoppers and pull them back out of the building.

Easy Model Railroad Inventory reaches a milestone.

EMRI has reached a major milestone, 500 Likes on its Facebook page. It is nice because it is a way for me to know the program is still appreciated. It is not easy for a software program that is not advertised or supported in any way other than contributions to succeed. I believe Easy Model Railroader has. Thanks to Bill Brillinger and his company for hosting the download. Without his support EMRI would not be available.

Tip on conveyor cable rigging - or how to avoid a BUNCH of irritation!

I've been assembling a number of goodies for my Klemptner salvage yard including Walters(r) #933-3645 "Scrap Yard Conveyor.  I thought that compared to the shear and bailer that I completed recently that this conveyor would be easy ............................and then I started doing the rigging of the cables......

Front End Loader for scrap yard

Does anyone have a suggestion on what front end loader I can use for my 1980 scrap yard?  I've found quite a few HO scale models of front end loaders but many of them look too modern and most of them don't give the year of the model.  I hate that when manufactures or ebay listing don't give the year a vehicle was made.  Thanks for any help.
