Walthers DCC friendly double crossover?

I am debating on purchasing an HO scale Walthers double crossover #6 (the DCC friendly version, part# 948-8812).  I did a little bit of research and I can't find too much information, and the reviews seem mixed.

Weekly Photo Fun - July 1 - July 7

I didn't see an entry for this week, so starting a thread.  Happy 4th of July!  I hope everyone enjoys time with family and friends.  I just finished weathering 8701, one of the "twins" - the last two Dash-9s in original CNW paint.

Possible "Industry" to Justify multiple cars

This car repair facility is in Bridgeton, North Carolina. Seems like it could be a good excuse for those of us that have more two cars with the same car number. One could be weathered and looking in need of repair, and leave the other in new condition. It would be a great place to shuttle cares of all types in and out. On a spur off the local Norfolk Southern Railroad. Also, across the Neuse River in New Bern, NS has a small and busy yard that has a wye with what looks like one leg with an 18" radius curve if it were in HO scale.

New vs Old Scalecoat Paint

In the past I used quite a bit of Scalecoat I & II paint. It was great stuff and gave a good and durable finish. My stock is running low and I need to re order. Weaver no longer owns and produces Scalecoat and it's now a product of Minute Man Scale Models.

My question is, has anyone used the new Scalecoat I or II paints? What do you think of them and are there any significant differences?

Sand Service?

Hello, part of my SP yard has an engine service area with an adjacent supply track for diesel fuel and sand supply. This leads to my questions... in the mid '80's what kinds of cars would typically be bringing the sand, and from what sources? John Colley, Sonoma, CA

Simple scratch building

I took a break from working on scenery and made a little nondescript shed to enhance the look of my Stonehammer branch line terminus. I'm going to put a few buoys on it to give the layout a maritime feel. I haven't decided where to locate it yet. It is also the first time I used an airbrush to paint a structure. I was putting thin coats on then by accident put too much paint on it so I brushed it off. I'll practice next time on a piece of wood before doing a structure.

Summer heat - quick video

I thought some might enjoy a look at trains running on our On30 Spruce Coal & Timber layout.

Enjoy all! For those in the USA, have safe and happy holiday

Disappointed in product.

I'm not having luck with Evergreen Hill designs Cedar Shingles in regards to peeling the backing off. I can get the backing off - I do it very carefully and slowly yet it keeps breaking the shingles into individual ones even when I use a hobby knife with a #11 blade as the instructions state to do.

Frustrated, I'm going back to using Campbell shingles.

Suggestions for Portable Task Lighting

I've been doing a fair amount of travelling for work recently and have begun, in the past year, taking models along to fill in down time hours.

Unfortunately, most hotels have mediocre to downright bad lighting around the tables / workspaces.  I'm therefore looking for a relatively compact task light with good, bright, diffuse lighting. Good color rendering is a plus, though less critical since I'm not doing any painting (I will be doing some powder weathering).

Any recommendations?

Matt
