Modeling general discussion
Some projects I completed this weekend.
Completed the first of 4 Chessie "Moonshine Hoppers". Not really happy with my paint job on them so I will be stripping and starting over on the other 3.

My small layout
My layout is small; that is, it's 10ft x 12ft around the wall. The pictures that I post here probably are misleading in that it looks more interesting than it is. By that I mean if you were to visit my layout it would take all but 10 minutes to see it and then - well - there's not much else to see.
3d printer ordered - bit of an impulse buy...
Been planning on getting into 3d printing....have some needs plus have always thought the process was cool, if a bit expensive. However, just think I did it backwards now. Instead of learning free CAD and testing with Shapeways, etc, I just impulse bought an Orion Tech 3d printer from WalMart of all places.
However, before you think I've gone off the deep end, the price of getting anything larger than small details can run you $30+ for each plus shipping. my local 3d hub shows $60 min order for anything over about 5 inches in any direction.
modern steel utility buildings - lower height range
Can anyone point me to reference information about modern utility buildings with steel exteriors? I'm especially interested in the lower range of heights for storage, light manufacturing and warehouse structures.
Walthers sells an HO kit (Lakeville Shipping) with a brick wall about 6 feet tall and a steel wall about 24 feet tall. Pikestuff sells several HO kits that represent all steel walls - warehouse, distribution center, etc.
1) is it common to have both brick and steel like the Walthers, or is all-steel (Pikestuff) style more common?

Weekly Photo Fun - 7/7 through 7/13/17
It's that time again! Post them if you got them!

Photobucket is breaking the internet
So I assume that some hear have heard that Photobucket has trashed thousands of online posts by breaking the links to millions of online posts, blogs, etc. in an ill-disguised ransom attack.....one that could very well actually destroy Photobucket itself?? Thoughts?

MRH Meetup in Minneapolis on July 12th
I'm arranging a meetup in Minneapolis on July 12th 2017
My wife and I are going on a Model Railroad Road Trip that takes us through Minneapolis on July 12th.
I'd love to meet some of my MRH colleagues and their wives face to face over supper on that day.
If anyone is interested, let me know!
Quick Projects
Looking for ideas for quick projects... I recall seeing a mini project on MRH a few years ago. It was a simple stack of RR ties that I was able to make out of wooden match sticks, India ink and glue. First sitting was to cut the match sticks to the proper length and soak them in an ink/alcohol mixture. After they dried, the second sitting was to glue them into a couple of stacks. Great little project that would easily fit into a busy schedule or even a filler project while waiting on something else.
1950's coal trucks & truck dumps
Does anyone have photos or memories of trucks used in the 1950's to haul coal from the mine to a truck dump? (I'm not discussing trucks that hauled retail coal for home use.) The George's Creek line (former Cumberland & Pennsylvania) of the Western Maryland had truck dumps as mining changed from underground drift mining to strip mining. The only published photo I recall is on the EBT at Wood, PA where the truck appears to be a normal dump truck of the era. When were the first large, high-sided dump bodies produced for coal trucks?
