MRH Magazine general discussion

Current Issue
Where does one get the current issue - August 2014. This has happened before. There are posts here about items in the magazine, yet clicking on "get current issue" brings up link to the July issue. Any hint on really being able to get the current issue? Am I missing something to click on?

Is MRH elitist?
We lurk on other model railroading forums and monitor what others are saying about MRH.
One thing that's come out lately is that MRH has become increasingly elitist.
I for one, never want to just blow off critical comments. Yes, attaboy's are nice, but it's the critical comments that give you the opportunity to do better.
So ... assuming the critical comment is correct and we have become somewhat elitist, then in what ways is that so? And how might we correct that?
Future Acrylic
I have spent the last couple of days running around looking for Future Acrylic to use for a gloss coat on a freight car decal project, and have been unable to find it. Has it been discontinued? Is there a good substitute?
Thanks,
Skip Luke

Embedded Ads
Curiosity has me posting this and maybe some other folks are wondering about this too. I have knowest over the last couple of days that when I click on a tread some of the posts have a highlighted word, bold, capitalized and in blue. Hold the cursor over it and an add pops up. Not related to trains at all.
The last one which I wrote down is in the Bachman code 100 topic. 2nd page, post is called Pricey and it is the 2nd word 1st line (THOUGHT). Hold your cursor over it and it comes up with an ad for gradschool.com.

Back Issues
I've been doing some computer clean out and updating.
I needed to rebuild my collection of MRH magazines. So, I've been downloading them for the same price that they cost when they were first issued (free).
Looking at the business model of other magazines, I think Joe should charge at least double what they were.
Oh, wait a minute, that's still free.
Thanks, Joe.
How to Print a Decal
I read in many posts on several different forums in which the posters mention printing their own decals. I have no clue how this is done or where to get the required supplies. As this is my "goto" magazine for information, I suggest this as a possible future article in the magazine from someone who has done this.

RIP - Richard Hendrickson
Posts in the Steam Era Freight Cars email list and elsewhere are announcing that Richard Hendrickson, a noted model railroader and MRH author, passed away following a fall a couple of days ago.
We will provide more information as we get it it.

July issue of MRH releasing evening of July 1st
Heads up:
July issue of MRH is expected to release the evening of July 1st, Pacific time.
RR-CirKits Examples
I'd like to see a series of articles directed toward using some of these products reviewed in the magazine, in particular, RR-CirKits. I am planning to use DCC on a new layout and want to see what I can do with all this hardware. Is there a book or article online which outlines and explains all the terminology?

40,000 subscribers
Searching my archive of MRH magazines for a particular article got me poking around some of the information in the older issues (always a good read for Sunday afternoons). Then I looked around the usually-ignored periphery of the MRH screen. I noticed that MRH just hit 40,000 subscribers.
If I recall correctly, the MRH business plan in 2009-2010 was aiming for a small fraction of that, with an advertiser base sufficient to sustain the magazine in 5 years. Done, and done.
