MRH Magazine general discussion

Camera Car
I am looking for an article on building a camera car. This particular article had a mount for the camera that turned with the truck giving you a "following the track" view. I've been looking for it on MRH as I'm sure it was on here. If not can anyone let me know where the heck it is? I'm having a Senior Moment. Thanks guys, and gals too!

An artist's dream railroad: The OCR
I am an artist, and a railfan. Naturally, this meant that there had to be a connection. I have always loved drawing trains, but by far, my favorite thing to do with my drawings was to draw my dream railroad. Someday, when I have the space, I want to turn it into a reality. It is very funny how it started. About 5 years ago, I took a trip with my family to Acadia national park, ME. Along the 6 hour drive, I stared out the window at the passing scenery. But when we got to Maine, WOW, there was just SOOOO much I wanted to go out and photograph.

Was it spam ?
This morning, 28th, January, 2015, between approximately 8:10 - 8:15, AM (A.S.T.) ) I logged on to MRH to see what was new overnight.
I clicked on "Recent posts by type", then clicked on the first post. I began to read the post and thought it may have been from someone who had not quite mastered the the English language. It was written in English, however, it made no sense insofar as structure. The words were hap hazard. No train of thought nor any real subject.

Wierd but true!
I have read about unusual layouts before. I have a normal layout I think. However, I have an unusual story about what I did. In the late 70's or early 80's I set up a very small loop of N scale snap track on a work counter and ran a short train for a day. Not too unusual except that I was serving in the U S Navy. The kicker is that I was on a nuclear submarine the USS Baton Rouge SSN 689. We were on a very deep dive at the time. I would clarify that I couldn't put the cars or locomotive on the track until we had leveled to a zero bubble. This was in Sonar where I stood watch.

BETA - New mobile-savvy online edition of MRH
We have a new mobile-savvy version of MRH that's in Beta test. If you'd like to have a look, here's the links (click or tap on the cover):

ePub version of MRH - isn't going to happen
Sometimes the best intentions just don't work out. The ePub version of MRH has hit a number of show-stopper roadblocks so we're going to move on for now.
The problems are many and the tools just are not ready for prime time yet - for a magazine. For eBooks, yes it's superb - but not for a magazine (not yet anyway).
New Format and Dropbox
For the past year or soI have downloaded MRH magazine to my Dropbox and then usually read it on my phone. The first time I open it from Dropbox on my phone, it takes a while for the magazine to load. When I open the next time, it opens up right away.
However, with the new format (both portrait and landscape), it take a few minutes to load each time I open it. This is not a problem when I have WiFi access. But, without WiFi, it takes several minutes to load. And if the cellular signal is weak, it will not load at all.
include layout links for featured articles?
Joe, can a link to the layout being featured in an article be included in every feature?
For reference, December 2014's "Building a Fast Loader" features the VSW which was introduced to us readers a while ago. While reading the new article it became apparent I would have liked to review the original article to see the drawing of the layout, or simply to have the layout drawing included again.
Is this a reasonable request? Could an (imbedded?) index for all articles in which a layout is featured be included at the end of the articles? Or some sort of article linking?
Article idea; Modular layout tour
So here's some thinking around the edge of the box that I just came up with in the last 24 hours. What if a MRH reporter was to do a layout tour/interview but with the Run Chief of a modular layout at an exhibition show such as NTS, Amherst, Timonium or one of the other large shows?
