Hollow Core Door Extension
I am scaling by dream layout down from 4x8 to one that would fit on a hollow core door, because it may need to be portable. The door I am looking at is 6' 8" by 36". I would really like to add 7" to the width, making it 6' 8" by 3' 7". My idea would be to stick a piece of pink or blue foam insulation 6' 8" by 7" down the side of the door in the front, where the track plan is flat. To keep the foam from falling, I was considering attaching a sill plate underneath the whole door and foam of ¼ underlayment p
Found sand piles
I was looking at a section of the garden when I noticed that these cheap clay pot stands or feet (see FIG 1) hadn't quite made it though the winter freeze/thaw cycles. Several had split or separated internally giving rise to finely grained, shapes resembling sand piles (FIG 2, 3).

Ring Engineering's RailPro
Questions about Ring Engineering's RailPro system.
I have looked at their website and viewed a few of the videos, but all I see is modern diesel and a single flat board shape.
Since I model in 1930's to 1940's steam, I am interested to know if they have steam sounds?
Modeling Techniques-Wood Structures
I have scratched-built simple structures using scribed wood or clapboard wood sheets. When using the scribed wood, I have pre-painted and weathered the wood prior to cutting and assembling the structure. I have used strip wood to reinforce/brace the corners and critical junctures. However, I have still experienced warping of the wood within the face of the structure. I would like to scratch-build a structure that has been taken from a historical photograph and scaled based on the height of the men standing next to the structure.

And we gear up again for Merit Badge Academy
And May 7 fast approaches. Yesterday, the
the Council announcement was posted and so far
I am the only counselor listed for any of the merit badges.
This time I did things a little different. I concentrated on getting tools for the next class.
1 parent contributed 10 hobby knives last time, plus a couple of eyeglass screwdrivers and tweezers
Xuron company contributed 15 sprue cutters!
Kadee kicked in some high quality tweezers this time, along with some other assorted tools and more coupler

HO Standard Gauge to On3??
Having moved last Nov, I have been without a layout for just about a year. I had been doing HO standard gauge. A smaller house and RR room gave me the idea of doing an N scale layout. Until I put up a bit of track, laid out some buildings I had on hand and ran a few trains. Completely uninspired. Every time I picked up a RR mag to thumb through or read I kept being drawn to On30 or On3. I have some of each picked up at one sale or another over the years. Impulse buying. We all know what that is right? I have pretty much broken that habit.
