Re-birth of C&E #1290

I did this LifeLike GP18 a little while back with a grey/yellow paint scheme, but somehow I wasn't satisfied with it.

So I decided to strip the paint a second time and repaint it this time in a straight dark green. I gave the engine a light weathering.

While I was working on this engine I upgraded the DCC to a sound-decoder SDN136PS from Digitrax, Inc.

Work for this weekend

Hi all.

Here's my work for this week. Need some elbow grease because I the yellow paint is driving me nuts.

I am using isopropyl alcohol.

Number Boards

If you are like me and need to put numbers on number boards and get frustrated with decals try this. I print the number boards using paint.net ( like photoshop) I keep a blank image and type in the unit number. copy and paste and print.

This is how they look when printed ( not the best pics, but you get the idea)

using an exacto knife cut them out.

Slow and steady

I have not made a lot of progress on the railroad of late but did get some additional brick work laid this weekend. Very delicate trying to fit the bricks between the rails in turnouts but with some patience and a very sharp xacto blade it eventually comes together.

Picked a Scale

We had a train show in our area today. Last night I was talking with my wife and letting her know that I was going to stick with HO. And that I would be selling off the N and O scale stuff I had picked up occasionally. "OK she says but don't sell the N scale because I want to build a small 2x4 layout to go under yours." Sure if that's what you want, was my reply.

Scratchbuilt LTTX Utility Pole Heavy duty flatcar, Updated

Update to my earlier post, I've nearly finished the scratchbuilt heavy duty LTTX flatcar.

I've used Tichy train group's strap winches and Microscale decals for the finishing touches.  No weathering yet, as I'm not quite ready to grubby this one up.

Thanks to those that contacted me about this.  I've made the parts available to anyone who wants to build one of their own with either the wide spaced log bunks or this closely spaced version.

I can also link you to a dropbox folder with lots of prototype photos

Bridge track on through truss?

I have some ME "bridge" track (basically: closer tie spacing than standard mainline track, and includes the extra rail to make a guard rail). I know that trestles use this kind of track, and deck bridges generally. Would the same be true of a through truss bridge?
